Eric Garcetti stated that electric buses have the potential to revolutionize the globe. Electric buses can provide a future in which the planet is habitable. The ambassador travelled to a seminar on "accelerating the deployment of electric buses in India" on an Indian electric bus.
In a groundbreaking partnership aimed at promoting sustainable transportation and combatting climate change, India and the United States have joined forces to introduce 10,000 electric buses onto the streets of India. US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti stated that electric buses have the potential to revolutionize the globe. Electric buses can provide a future in which the planet is habitable.
The ambassador travelled to a seminar on "accelerating the deployment of electric buses in India" on an Indian electric bus. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot mentioned that the ambassador took a ride in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) electric bus.
"Through this new partnership, the US government, including the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the office of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change, will collaborate with public and private sector entities to accelerate electric bus financing," the US Embassy in New Delhi said in a statement.
The United States and India have started a mechanism to ease the deployment of 10,000 made-in-India electric buses in cities across the country. The collaborative vision was initially unveiled during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to the White House.
"It was thrilling for me to ride on an Indian electric bus. We know that electric buses have the potential to revolutionize the planet. They are quieter and cleaner, and they help us lower our carbon footprint and ensure that our planet is livable in the future. It's one of the reasons the US government is collaborating with our friends in the Government of India to get more electric buses on Indian city streets," he stated.
"Every day, we see the global impact of the climate crisis. We must act immediately or risk our planet's and people's future. The companies would mobilize financing for a fleet of 10,000 electric buses across India, extending alternatives for electric public transportation in India and generating cleaner cities and healthier communities," he added.

According to a joint statement issued earlier this month, India and the United States will provide joint support for a payment security mechanism for expanding electric mobility in India, boosting the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, which aims to procure 10,000 electric buses for cities with insufficient public transportation.
As per the sources released following Prime Minister Modi's meeting with US President Joe Biden, the two leaders discussed the necessity of "decarbonizing the transportation sector." Before the start of the G20 Leaders' Summit, Modi and Biden met at the Prime Minister's house.
India began the NEBP in June of last year with the goal of gradually deploying 50,000 new electric buses across the different cities of the country. By promoting the adoption of electric buses, the United States and India are taking a significant step towards achieving their shared goals of a greener and more sustainable future.
Electric buses have gained attention worldwide for their potential to combat climate change and improve air quality in urban areas. They are known for their reduced noise pollution and minimal greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional diesel or petrol-powered buses.
The announcement marks a significant step forward in the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to cleaner forms of transportation.
