DGFT adds new export rules for animal products.
In a major move to support domestic producers, the central government has extended the Minimum Import Price (MIP) on natural honey imports until December 31, 2026. The decision aims to curb the inflow of cheap imported honey and protect Indian farmers and producers.
According to the latest notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the Minimum Import Price for natural honey will continue at USD 1,400 per metric tonne (FOB). While the price remains unchanged, the validity period has now been extended until the end of 2026.
Earlier, this rule was applicable only for a limited duration.
The primary objective of this move is to discourage the import of low-cost honey from international markets. Such imports had been impacting domestic prices and reducing profitability for local producers.
With the MIP in place, cheaper imports will be restricted, helping maintain fair competition in the market.
Industry experts believe that extending the MIP will reduce unfair competition and ensure better price realization for Indian honey producers. This step is expected to benefit small and medium-scale farmers who have been facing pricing pressure due to cheaper imported alternatives.
In a separate notification, DGFT has also introduced additional conditions for the export of feathers, skins, and other animal products. Detailed guidelines for these changes have been released separately to ensure better regulation of exports.
