EIM opens its second heavy-duty swapping station at JNPA.
Around 150 EIM electric trucks currently operate within JNPA.
First E5 swapping station has reached operational capacity.
EV Megaplex will eventually support over 700 heavy trucks.
JNPA targets full energy transition by December 2027.
Energy In Motion (EIM) has inaugurated its second heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging station at the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT), under the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).
The new facility is part of a larger EV Megaplex planned at JNPT, supporting the port's goal of achieving a full energy transition by December 2027. The upcoming infrastructure is expected to support more than 700 electric heavy-duty trucks operating across important terminal corridors.
The newly opened station follows EIM's existing E5 battery swapping facility at JNPA. According to the company, around 150 EIM electric trucks are currently operating within the JNPA area.
EIM said its first battery swapping station has already reached its stated operational capacity, creating the need for additional infrastructure to support the growing number of electric trucks at the port.
The proposed EV Megaplex at JNPT will include three battery swapping-cum-charging stations, a dedicated service station, a driver training centre and a heavy-vehicle simulator. The existing swapping facility will also be integrated into the wider infrastructure.
The project aims to create a complete ecosystem for electric heavy-duty freight vehicles. Battery swapping is expected to reduce vehicle turnaround time, while service facilities will focus on improving vehicle uptime.
The driver training centre and heavy-vehicle simulator will help prepare drivers for operating electric heavy-duty vehicles in demanding freight conditions.
EIM Managing Director Narendra Murkumbi said the company's electric freight operations at JNPT are now expanding beyond dedicated port movements to include container freight station (CFS) movements.
The expansion involves coordination between EIM, JNPA, terminal operators and logistics service providers to integrate electric trucks into broader freight operations.
EIM is also using slot-booking and slot-optimisation systems to improve the movement and utilisation of electric vehicles in high-throughput freight operations.
The EV Megaplex is designed to bring together energy infrastructure, electric vehicles and freight operations at one location. By expanding battery swapping, charging, servicing and driver training facilities, EIM aims to support the wider adoption of electric heavy-duty trucks at JNPT.
The development forms an important part of JNPA's journey towards achieving its full energy-transition target by December 2027.

EIM's second heavy-duty battery swapping station marks another step in the electrification of freight operations at JNPA. With around 150 electric trucks already operating and infrastructure planned for more than 700 vehicles, the upcoming EV Megaplex could strengthen large-scale electric freight movement. Battery swapping, servicing, driver training and digital slot optimisation will together support faster, more efficient operations as JNPA moves towards its December 2027 energy-transition goal.
