Key Highlights:
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has established a new Mechatronics Lab at its Oragadam factory. This lab increases the efficiency of software architecture verification and validation, lowering expenses by 70-80% over standard approaches.
The lab uses agile approaches to swiftly discover and resolve software issues, resulting in much shorter testing and verification timeframes.
Advanced Testing and Verification
The Mechatronics Lab tests software functionality for DICV trucks and buses to ensure they meet current safety standards and are ready for future worldwide regulations.
According to Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President of Product Engineering and Chief Technology Officer at DICV, the lab represents a transformative phase in the company's R&D operations and acts as an innovation hub.
Dilip Shrivastava, Head of Mechatronics and Software Technology at DICV, emphasized the lab's capabilities, stating that it can evaluate and validate about 300 features and over a thousand signals within 10 days, as well as verify 600 fault codes in a new product within weeks.
Infrastructure and Advanced Features
The lab's infrastructure allows the evaluation of various vehicle architectures without needing multiple test vehicles. It can simulate and confirm unusual faults that are difficult to replicate in real-world scenarios.
The lab's equipment includes a flashing station for pre-production verification of electronic control units, as well as an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) setup that replicates on-road data in the lab.
Over the last decade, DICV has set high standards for safety and efficiency in the commercial vehicle market. The new Mechatronics Lab is planned to build on this heritage by introducing innovative safety features like Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Blind Spot Assist, Driver Drowsiness Alert, and Lane Departure Warning.
