Chhattisgarh has taken an important step towards modernising agricultural and revenue records with the launch of the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) under the Central Government’s Agri Stack programme. The initiative aims to digitally record the actual crops grown in fields and provide accurate information about agricultural land.
The survey is being carried out using mobile applications and satellite imagery. Surveyors are visiting fields, collecting crop-related information and uploading photographs through mobile apps. This will gradually reduce dependence on traditional paper-based records and make crop and land data more transparent and accessible.
The Digital Crop Survey has also started in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. The campaign began on August 17, 2026, combining the traditional manual Girdawari process with digital technology.
A total of 55,638 Khasras or land plots across 176 villages are being covered under the survey. The district administration has set a target to complete the entire exercise within the stipulated period while maintaining the accuracy and quality of the collected information.
The survey will digitally capture details about the land and crops actually sown in the fields. Satellite imagery will further support the collection and assessment of agricultural land and crop-related information.
Under the new system, surveyors are required to physically visit agricultural fields and record information about crops through a mobile application. Photographs of crops are also being uploaded to the app along with relevant field details.
The combination of field-level data, mobile technology and satellite imagery is expected to create a more reliable digital database of agricultural land and crops. Such information could help the government implement agricultural schemes and other farmer-focused services in a more systematic way.
The Narayanpur administration is closely monitoring the progress of the Digital Crop Survey to ensure that the work is completed by the deadline.
Under the guidance of the Collector, the Additional Collector and the officer in charge of land records have conducted surprise inspections at field locations. During these inspections, officials interacted directly with surveyors and supervisors and reviewed the progress of the work.
They also discussed practical and technical difficulties being faced during the survey and issued necessary instructions for their quick resolution. The administration is focusing on maintaining both the speed and accuracy of the digital survey.
The Narayanpur administration has set September 30, 2026, as the deadline for completing the Digital Crop Survey.
The campaign has gained momentum since its launch, with approximately 8,000 land plots already surveyed. Officials are now working to complete the remaining Khasras within the deadline.
Field staff have been assigned specific responsibilities, while the progress of the survey is being reviewed regularly to ensure timely completion.
A dedicated field-level system has been established in Narayanpur for carrying out the survey efficiently.
160 surveyors are recording land and crop information digitally.
29 supervisors are responsible for verification and quality control of the data entered by surveyors.
21 special officers from the Revenue and Agriculture Departments are monitoring the survey and conducting regular inspections.
This multi-level monitoring system is also intended to identify and correct errors in the collected information at an early stage.
One of the major expected benefits of the Digital Crop Survey is the availability of accurate and real-time information about agricultural land and crops.
Reliable digital crop records can make it easier for the government to identify eligible farmers and provide benefits under various agricultural programmes. The data could support more transparent implementation of crop insurance, relief assistance, Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other government schemes.
