  • Traffic restrictions from Oct 27–28.

  • Over 700 traffic personnel deployed.

  • Heavy vehicles and trucks are banned.

  • Diversions set for buses and pickups.

  • Special parking zones for devotees.

As the city gears up for the grand Chhath Puja celebrations on October 27 and 28, 2025, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has announced several traffic regulations to ensure smooth movement, public safety, and convenience for devotees visiting ghats. The restrictions have been in effect from 11 AM on October 27 till 11 AM on October 28.

Over 700 Traffic Personnel Deployed and 50 Key Routes Regulated

To maintain order during the festival, the city traffic police have deployed over 700 personnel across various junctions and riverfront routes. In addition, 50 key roads and intersections have been identified for regulation to manage the high flow of devotees and vehicles. These measures are aimed at preventing congestion and ensuring smooth access to Chhath Ghats across the city.

Heavy Vehicles and Commercial Trucks Restricted

To minimize congestion, the administration has banned the entry of heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, and commercial goods carriers into the city during the restriction period. This will help clear the roads for thousands of devotees traveling to ghats for their rituals and offerings.

Moreover, MG Road (between Machkhowa Point and Chief Justice’s Bungalow Point) will remain closed to general traffic. Only small commercial vehicles transporting puja materials and devotees will be permitted.

Additionally, slow-moving vehicles such as auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and three-wheelers will also face restrictions unless they are being used for puja-related activities.

Diversions for Buses, Trucks, and Pickups

To ensure an organized traffic flow, specific diversions have been planned for buses and commercial vehicles:

Vehicle Type

Route Diversion Details

City Buses (Khanapara to Bharalumukh)

Must avoid Panbazar ROB and instead use GS Road and AT Road.

Inter-District & ASTC Rural Buses (from Jalukbari)

It will be diverted through NH-27 to reduce congestion near city ghats.

Devotee Vehicles (Four-Wheelers)

Allowed near ghats.

Six-Wheelers and Larger Vehicles

Prohibited from entering ghat zones.

Additionally, HB Road (between Sani Mandir and Panbazar Police Point) will allow two-way traffic movement to maintain a steady flow during peak hours.

No Parking Zones for Heavy-Duty Vehicles

To avoid traffic blockages and ensure public convenience, the city administration has declared no parking zones for heavy vehicles on major roads, including:

  • AT Road (Bharalumukh to Panbazar Overbridge)

  • MLN Road

  • ARB Road

  • SRCB Road

  • SS Road

  • HB Road

  • TRP Road

Further, trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty vehicles will not be allowed to park on TRP Road, Lakhi Gali, Chamber Road, SRCB Road, Kedar Road, and MS Road during the restricted hours.

Parking Arrangements for Devotees

Special parking arrangements have been made for vehicles carrying devotees and puja materials. The following areas will serve as parking points:

  • Lakhi Gali

  • Chamber Road

  • MS Road

  • SRCB Road

  • Market side of MG Road

For devotees visiting Sonaram Higher Secondary School, Ghat, parking will be available inside the school field area.

To further improve safety, the administration has urged puja committees to arrange designated parking spaces away from ghats and deploy volunteers to help manage crowds and direct traffic smoothly.

Aim: Safe and Smooth Chhath Puja Celebration

The Kamrup (Metro) administration’s proactive measures reflect its commitment to ensuring a safe, disciplined, and peaceful Chhath Puja. With over 700 traffic personnel, regulated vehicle movement, and special parking arrangements, the city aims to provide a smooth experience for all devotees while keeping heavy and commercial vehicles off key routes.

Residents and visitors are requested to follow the traffic guidelines, cooperate with on-ground officers, and avoid unnecessary travel on restricted routes during the festive period.

In short: These temporary traffic rules are designed to ensure easy access to ghats, reduce congestion, and maintain safety during one of the city’s most significant festivals, Chhath Puja 2025.
