The PM Kisan Udaan Yojana allows farmers to export their agricultural produce both domestically and internationally, free of charge. The majority of the transportation work becomes tax-exempt, similar to the Kisan Rail, which transports fruits, vegetables, milk, and other farm products across India. The Central Government has initiated various agricultural programs to assist farmers in their farming activities. These programs offer benefits such as subsidies, loans, and insurance to facilitate better farming practices. The farmers’ livelihood is heavily dependent on their crops.
The loss of crops, especially those that perish quickly after harvest, can lead to significant financial losses for farmers. To address this issue, the Central Government has introduced a special scheme that provides air transport facilities for farmers to move their agricultural products from one location to another. This scheme is known as the PM Kisan Udaan Yojana or Krishi Udaan Yojana.
Understanding the Kisan Udaan Yojana
The Krishi Udaan Yojana enables farmers to export their agricultural products within the country and abroad without any charges. Most of the transportation work becomes tax-free, much like the Kisan Rail, which delivers fruits, vegetables, milk, and other farm products throughout the country. However, the Krishi Udaan Yojana allows for the export of perishable and underprivileged farmer products. More than 50 airports in the country have been connected for the air transportation of agricultural products under the Krishi Udaan scheme.
Availability of Facilities at Various Airports
The PM Kisan Udaan Yojana provides a convenient setup for exporting short-term agricultural products, including flowers, fruits, vegetables, and dairy within the country and abroad. This allows for quick transportation via flight, ensuring that the products reach the market in time. This also enables farmers to secure a fair price. Any farmer in India can benefit from this scheme. Since 2020, more than 53 airports have been added under this scheme. The scheme primarily focuses on transporting agricultural products from hilly areas, northeastern states, and tribal areas, where road transport is extremely challenging. The products often need more time to reach the market. The Krishi Udan service completes this task in a few hours, overcoming these challenges.
