Ashok Leyland has become India’s first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to deliver an in-house BSVI Stage II emission-compliant LNG engine.

Ashok Leyland delivered India's first LNG-powered haulage truck - AVTR 1922 to Mahanagar Gas Limited in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. With this Ashok Leyland strengthens its portfolio of commercial vehicles adding an alternative fuel segment.

Ashok Leyland, one of the leading manufacturing companies in India has delivered the first batch of AVTR 1922; India’s first LNG-powered truck to Mahanagar Gas Limited in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Ashok Leyland has become India’s first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to deliver an in-house BSVI Stage II emission-compliant LNG engine.

The President of MHCV at Ashok Leyland, Sanjeev Kumar said, “We are delighted to deliver the first batch of AVTR 1922 LNG-powered haulage truck to Mahanagar Gas Limited. Our steadfast commitment revolves around the dynamic needs of customers in the ever-evolving world of sustainable transportation. For over a decade, we have been at the forefront of the alternative energy landscape, beginning with our groundbreaking CNG buses. We firmly believe that our innovations in alternate energy space will not only provide eco-conscious solutions but also ensure long-term profitability for our esteemed customers.”

The haulage trucks, also known as dump or dumper trucks play a crucial role in the Indian transportation industry. These trucks are mostly powered by diesel engines which highly contribute to carbon emissions. Ashok Leyland AVTR 1922 has become the first haulage truck in India to be powered by an LNG engine and hence a more eco-friendly truck.

Ashok Leyland AVTR 1922 LNG Truck

Ashok Leyland AVTR 1922 is powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) engine. The LNG engine shares similarities with the pre-existing Ashok Leyland diesel engines. This is done to ensure streamlined service and maintenance processes for the customers, as told by the company in a press release.

Additionally, the 6-cylinder H-series LNG engine is built on India’s first and only fully modular truck platform - AVTR. The AVTR 1922 is optimised for the Indian roads and operating conditions. Ashok Leyland AVTR 1922 LNG truck features a full metal front fascia for easy reparability and enhanced safety.
