Apollo Tyres has partnered with Tyromer Inc, a leader in the non-chemical devulcanisation of end-of-life tyres, to further its commitment to sustainability. Tyromer Inc is committed to supplying recycled rubber material to Apollo Tyres using environmentally sustainable processes.

P K Mohamed, Chief Advisor, R&D, Apollo Tyres, said, “This partnership with Tyromer is a step toward achieving our sustainability goals. Producing new tyres from sustainable raw materials is currently the most efficient way to achieve our circular economy objectives."

Dr Sam Visaisouk, CEO of Tyromer Inc, said, "We are grateful to the Apollo Tyres team for its support of our vision of direct tyre-to-tyre recycling for achieving a tyre circular economy. In the face of the climate crisis, it is no longer an option to avoid using rubber derived from end-of-life tyres.”

Tyromer and Apollo Tyres share a strong commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. Tyre-derived polymer (TDP), produced by Tyromer's proprietary and patented technology, has been validated as a raw material for tyres as a result of this collaboration.

Random fact about tyre-derived polymers (TDP):

  • Using a tonne of TDP reduces GHG emissions by the same amount as driving four passenger vehicles for a year.
  • A tonne of TDP requires less than two MWh of energy to produce, compared to more than 20 MWh for new material.
