Available globally from 2026 with reduced maintenance.
Caterpillar has introduced the all-new 140 Lever Motor Grader at the 2025 Public Works Expo. This model represents a ground-up redesign of the world’s best-selling motor grader, offering a next-generation cab, upgraded controls, and advanced technology to deliver higher productivity, comfort, and precision.
The redesigned cab is shared with the Cat 120 and focuses on operator visibility and comfort. Key improvements include:
Relocated the C pillar and larger windows with wipers for clear sightlines.
A brushless HVAC system mounted on the cab roof, reducing noise and improving airflow.
A newly adjustable seat with extra space, a revised safety harness, and an operator presence monitor for enhanced safety.
The new Caterpillar 140 comes with major control upgrades, making operations simpler and less tiring:
A new shifter with forward-neutral-reverse and an easy gear change layout.
A nine-speed transmission (up from eight) with an ultra-slow gear for precise work in tight areas.
Easier directional shifting is designed to reduce operator fatigue.
The new grader introduces advanced electro-hydraulic systems and grade control technology:
Cat Grade Cross Slope Assist with improved sensors for higher grading accuracy.
First lever motor grader to feature integrated 3D mastless grade control.
A 10-inch display that integrates an HD rearview camera, with an optional 360-degree system and People Detect technology.
The Stable Blade system automatically slows the machine to maintain grade accuracy.
Maintenance has been simplified to reduce downtime and boost efficiency:
Extended and synchronized maintenance intervals.
The fuel filling point has been moved to the front frame for quick access.
High Performance Circle option with excavator-style bearing, cutting down maintenance needs.
Standard LED lights and bolt-on rear rippers for easy service.
Eric Kohout, Motor Grader Product Application Specialist at Caterpillar, explained the advantage of the new nine-speed transmission:
“We’ve added another gear that’s about three-quarters the speed of the normal first gear, and that allows operators to maneuver without relying on the inching pedal all day. This makes it much easier to work in tight spaces.”
He also highlighted the value of the advanced technology:
“The next-generation hydraulics and advanced grade control systems ensure that operators achieve higher accuracy, while still keeping familiar tools like the bubble gauge for veteran users.”
The all-new Caterpillar 140 Lever Motor Grader will be available in 2026. With its upgraded cab, simplified controls, advanced grade control systems, and reduced maintenance needs, the grader is set to redefine performance standards in roadbuilding, snow clearing, and grading applications. This launch reinforces Caterpillar’s position as a global leader in construction equipment innovation.
The Caterpillar 140 Lever Motor Grader sets a new standard in construction equipment with its redesigned cab, advanced grade control technology, and simplified maintenance. Launching in 2026, it combines comfort, precision, and efficiency, making it ideal for roadbuilding, snow clearing, and grading. With this upgrade, Caterpillar strengthens its leadership and continues driving innovation in the global construction industry.
