SWITCH Mobility’s IeV8: The Smart Electric Commercial Vehicle

SWITCH Mobility, a prominent player in sustainable transport and a part of the Hinduja Group has officially unveiled the IeV8, a state-of-the-art electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV). This innovative electric light commercial vehicle is designed to meet the increasing demand for efficient and eco-friendly logistics solutions across various industries.

The IeV8 offers a remarkable payload capacity of up to four tonnes, making it ideal for transporting heavy goods while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability. Additionally, it features modular configurations, allowing businesses to customize the electric light commercial vehicle to their specific operational needs. With these impressive features, the IeV8 aims to set new benchmarks in operational performance, durability, and sustainability within the Indian electric commercial vehicle market.

Modular Design for Versatile Applications

The IeV8 is a flexible vehicle platform available in both 4-tyre and 6-tyre configurations, perfect for both intercity and intracity operations. It offers two battery options: 70 kWh and 140 kWh. These allows the vehicle to cover distances of up to 250 kilometers. The vehicle supports container sizes of 14 and 17 feet. This electric light commercial vehicle is ideal for a variety of uses, such as delivering white goods, mid-mile logistics, and refrigerated transport.

The company spent over a year talking to customers to understand their needs. The IeV8 is the result of these conversations. With payload capacities ranging from 1.2 tonnes to 4 tonnes, it targets a wide range of logistics businesses. The vehicle is designed to improve productivity with fast-charging capabilities. This concept is just the beginning, and the market-ready product is expected in 12 to 15 months.

The IeV8 is powered by advanced lithium battery technology, offering a range of 250 kilometers on a single charge. With the container compatibility of 830 cubic feet, it is ideal for various logistics applications. The vehicle also includes fast-charging capabilities, reducing downtime and ensuring smooth operations.

For driver comfort and safety, the IeV8 comes with Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS), an air-conditioned cabin, tiltable steering, and sliding and reclining seats.

Advanced Telematics System

The SWITCH IeV8 incorporates SWITCH iON, the company's proprietary telematics system, which enables real-time vehicle health monitoring and intelligent fleet management. It offers over 50 advanced features, making fleet operations more efficient and connected.

Innovation in Safety & Performance

One of the key features of the IeV8 is its low-mounted battery pack. This design improves the vehicle’s centre of gravity and allows for taller body structures. As a result, the vehicle can transport high-volume, low-weight cargo more efficiently. It's especially suitable for applications like refrigerated transport, milk, water, fuel distribution, and other specialized needs.

The IeV8 benefits from SWITCH Mobility's experience with electric buses and smaller commercial vehicles. The vehicle's design is backed by thorough testing, validation, and a strong service network, ensuring maximum uptime. The company boasts a 95% same-day repair rate, minimizing downtime for fleet operators. This commitment to reliability will also apply to the IeV8, offering higher dependability for users.

Target B2B Market

The IeV8 is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing e-commerce sector, with potential clients like Amazon, Flipkart, and major white goods distributors in mind. It also caters to the demands of existing customers, such as fleet operators like MoEVing, BillionE, and Magenta, who have expressed interest in a vehicle with this payload capacity.

Although the primary focus is on the Indian B2B market, the IeV8 has strong export potential. Its payload capacity and design make it an excellent fit for intracity logistics in regions like Europe and Southeast Asia, where sustainability is becoming a key priority.

Future-Ready Sustainability

The IeV8 has been designed to meet customer expectations for design, cost-effectiveness, and operational efficiency. While the price will be announced at launch, it is expected to fall within the INR 25 lakh to INR 35 lakh range. The IeV8 will be positioned as a value-driven solution for businesses looking to transition to sustainable logistics.

The company’s approach involves partnering with fleet operators, building on existing relationships, and staying in tune with global trends to create a product that caters to both current and future logistics needs.

A Milestone in Electric Logistics

The IeV8 marks a significant step in SWITCH Mobility’s mission to provide sustainable and innovative transport solutions. With its modular design and strong focus on customer satisfaction, the IeV8 is set to transform the logistics landscape. It enables businesses to achieve their sustainability goals without compromising on performance or reliability.
