By Robin Kumar Attri
Managing an electric commercial vehicle is not only about knowing how much load it can carry or how far it can travel on a single charge. For EV owners and fleet operators, knowing the vehicle’s live location, battery status, remaining range, charging options and service requirements can be equally important. This is where connected-vehicle platforms such as Mahindra NEMO come into play.
Mahindra NEMO is designed specifically around the needs of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility electric vehicles. It brings vehicle tracking, EV-specific information, service support and fleet-management features into a connected platform. The system is particularly useful for operators running vehicles such as the Mahindra Treo, Zor and ZEO for last-mile deliveries, goods movement and other commercial applications.
At the same time, Tata Motors offers Fleet Edge, another OEM-connected platform designed for its commercial vehicles. While both systems provide vehicle tracking and fleet-management capabilities, their focus is different. So, what exactly does Mahindra NEMO offer, how does its geo-fencing feature work, and which Mahindra vehicles support NEMO FMS? Let’s find out.

What is Mahindra NEMO?
Mahindra NEMO is a connected mobility platform developed for Mahindra Last Mile Mobility EVs. It allows owners and fleet operators to access important vehicle information through a digital interface.
The platform combines real-time vehicle location, vehicle health, performance information, service support and EV-related data. For fleet users, it can also provide multi-vehicle management and security-related functions such as geo-fencing and trip replay.
For an individual EV owner, the NEMO app can make everyday vehicle management easier. For a fleet operator, the larger value comes from being able to monitor several vehicles and understand how they are being used.
What can the Mahindra NEMO App do?
Unlike a conventional vehicle-tracking application, NEMO is designed around electric vehicle operation. This means that, along with location tracking, users can access information related to battery and range.
Some of the important capabilities include:
Real-time vehicle location
Find My Vehicle
Location sharing
State of Charge (SOC) monitoring
Distance-to-Empty (DTE) information
Battery-life insights
Charging-related information
Charging-point visibility
Service reminders and scheduling
Service history
Dealer locator
Roadside assistance
Driver-performance monitoring
Fleet management
Geo-fencing
Trip replay
Fleet security features
NEMO also provides visibility of more than 10,000 charging points, including information about their locations and costs, helping EV operators plan charging more effectively.
For a commercial EV operator, this can be particularly useful because battery availability directly affects whether a vehicle can complete its next delivery run.
How Does Geo-Fencing Work in Mahindra NEMO?
One of the more useful fleet-management features in NEMO is geo-fencing. A geo-fence is essentially a virtual boundary created on a digital map. A fleet manager can define an approved operating area around a depot, warehouse, mandi, customer location, delivery zone or other designated area.
Once the boundary is established, the vehicle's location can be monitored against that area.
How the process works
Create a virtual boundary: The fleet administrator defines the area that the vehicle is expected to operate within.
Track the vehicle: The vehicle's telematics system continuously shares its location using GPS and network connectivity.
Detecting movement: The system checks whether the vehicle enters, leaves or moves outside the defined area.
Generate an event or alert: Depending on the configuration, a movement outside the defined area can be recorded and may trigger an alert.
Review the journey: Fleet managers can use tracking and trip-replay functions to understand the vehicle's movement and investigate unexpected deviations.
Where can NEMO geo-fencing be useful?
For a commercial EV fleet, geo-fencing can have several practical applications. A fleet owner can use it to monitor whether a vehicle remains within an assigned delivery territory, detect unauthorised movement from a depot or charging yard, or check whether a vehicle reached a particular customer or collection location.
For example, an operator using Mahindra EVs for mandi collection, warehouse transfers or village deliveries can create an operating zone and monitor whether vehicles remain within the expected area.
Geo-fencing can also help identify unnecessary diversions. For an EV, a long diversion can have a direct impact on battery range and may result in an unexpected charging requirement.
However, geo-fencing should not automatically be treated as proof of driver misconduct. Road closures, customer requests, charging requirements, GPS issues and network interruptions can all result in apparent route deviations.
Which Mahindra Vehicles Support NEMO FMS?
According to Mahindra's official NEMO information provided in the source material, the platform is currently available for three vehicle families:
Mahindra vehicle | NEMO support |
Mahindra Treo | Supported |
Mahindra Zor | Supported |
Mahindra ZEO | Supported |
Mahindra specifically states that NEMO is currently available for Treo, Zor and ZEO vehicles. However, the presence of a supported model alone does not necessarily mean every fleet feature will automatically be available. Actual functionality can depend on compatible telematics hardware, active connectivity, registered customer details, vehicle variant and the specific FMS arrangement.
NEMO App vs NEMO Fleet Management System
There is an important difference between the regular NEMO app and the NEMO Fleet Management System (FMS). The NEMO app is primarily aimed at individual owners and drivers, while FMS is designed for operators managing multiple vehicles. The fleet solution brings together functions such as vehicle monitoring, fleet performance, geo-fencing, energy information, service management and security. Mahindra also states that the NEMO app can support multiple vehicles through a single sign-in. For FMS access, customers may need to contact the nearest dealer or request a demonstration.
Mahindra NEMO vs Tata Fleet Edge
Mahindra NEMO and Tata Fleet Edge are both OEM-connected fleet platforms, but they target different vehicle ecosystems.
NEMO is focused on Mahindra Last Mile Mobility electric vehicles, while Fleet Edge covers a much broader Tata commercial-vehicle portfolio, including trucks, buses and commercial EVs.

Which One Should Fleet Operators Choose?
The choice largely depends on the vehicles being operated and the type of information the business needs. For someone operating Mahindra Treo, Zor or ZEO EVs, NEMO is the natural connected-fleet solution. Its biggest advantage is that it combines vehicle tracking with EV-specific information such as SOC, DTE, charging visibility and battery-related insights.
Tata Fleet Edge, on the other hand, is more relevant to businesses operating Tata commercial vehicles, particularly larger fleets that need detailed fuel analytics, driver scorecards, maintenance information and trip-profitability reports.
In simple terms, NEMO is more EV-focused, while Fleet Edge offers broader commercial-fleet analytics.
Is Mahindra NEMO Available for Tractors?
No. Mahindra NEMO should not be considered a tractor telematics platform.
The supplied official information identifies NEMO as a platform for Mahindra Last Mile Mobility electric vehicles, specifically Treo, Zor and ZEO. Therefore, tractor owners should not assume that NEMO will provide GPS tracking, geo-fencing, energy monitoring or fleet reports for their tractors.
For an agriculture or agri-logistics business, NEMO can still be useful if Mahindra EVs are being used for last-mile transportation of farm produce, agricultural inputs or mandi-related logistics. Tractor telematics, however, should be confirmed separately with the relevant Mahindra tractor dealer.
What Should Buyers Check Before Using NEMO FMS?
Before adopting NEMO for a commercial fleet, operators should confirm the exact features available for their vehicle and FMS package.
Important points to check include:
Whether the vehicle has compatible telematics hardware
Whether the telematics system is active and connected
Whether the registered mobile number matches the dealer records
Which geo-fencing functions are available
Whether entry and exit alerts are supported
Whether time-based movement controls are available
How alerts are delivered
Whether trip replay is included
Whether immobilisation is available and under what conditions
What charging and energy information is provided
Whether any separate fleet activation or access arrangement is required

CMV360 Says
Mahindra NEMO brings connected technology closer to the everyday requirements of an electric commercial vehicle operator. Instead of only tracking where a vehicle is, the platform combines location, battery readiness, range, charging visibility, service support and fleet-security functions.
For owners and operators of Mahindra Treo, Zor and ZEO, NEMO can therefore be a useful tool for managing last-mile operations. Its geo-fencing and trip-monitoring capabilities can also help businesses control vehicle movement and improve operational visibility.
The key point, however, is that NEMO is not a universal Mahindra telematics platform. Its current supported vehicle ecosystem is focused on Mahindra Last Mile Mobility EVs, while businesses operating tractors or other Mahindra vehicles should verify compatibility separately.
