In a major step towards transforming Indian agriculture, the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhanwill launch the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 from Puri, Odisha on May 29, 2025. This campaign aims to support farmers ahead of the Kharif season through direct engagement, awareness about modern techniques, and transfer of agricultural knowledge from lab to land.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a 15-day nationwide campaign organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, in collaboration with state governments. The campaign will:
Cover more than 700 districts
Reach over 65,000 villages
Directly connect with around 1.5 crore farmers
To ensure effective implementation, 2,170 dedicated teams will be deployed. These teams will be supported by:
731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)
113 ICAR institutes
State departments of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries
The main objective of this campaign is to prepare farmers for the Kharif season and promote modern agricultural practices. The campaign will focus on:
Spreading awareness about region-specific crop technologies
Educating farmers about government schemes and subsidies
Promoting the use of Soil Health Cards for better crop planning and balanced fertilizer use
Encouraging direct farmer-scientist interaction
Collecting feedback from farmers to improve agricultural research and support
Promoting farmer-led innovation and inter-regional knowledge sharing
After the launch in Odisha, Shivraj Singh Chouhan will travel across nearly 20 states, including major agricultural regions like:
Jammu
Rajasthan
Gujarat
Uttar Pradesh
Bihar
Maharashtra
And several others
This tour aims to directly connect policymakers with farmers, ensuring that agricultural policies are aligned with the real needs and challenges faced on the ground.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 is part of the government’s larger vision of building a developed and self-reliant India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047. Through this campaign, the government hopes to:
Strengthen the link between science and farming
Build a sustainable farming ecosystem
Create better income opportunities for farmers
Support climate-resilient and technology-driven agriculture
