TAFE Motors and Sundaram-Clayton, two of India’s leading companies, have made history by launching the country’s first electric tractors. This groundbreaking innovation aims to boost Indian agriculture and make it more sustainable and efficient.
The launch of the electric tractors was announced at the prestigious Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TN GIM) 2024, where Lakshmi Venu, managing director of Sundaram-Clayton and Director of TAFE Motors, said that the move was intended to prepare the farming industry for the future.
Venu also unveiled the new electric models, which includes advanced features like auto steering and farm management systems. These futuristic tractors are an advanced step towards making Indian agriculture ready for the challenges and opportunities of the coming years.
Leveraging the Engineering and R&D Ecosystem of Tamil Nadu-
Venu also recognized the vital role of talent and expertise in this technological leap and declared the company’s intention to leverage the engineering and R&D ecosystem of Tamil Nadu. By collaborating with universities and the research community, TAFE and Sundaram-Clayton aim to build a strong base for innovation and development, ensuring that India remains at the forefront of this agricultural revolution.
Boosting a Supportive Environment for Technological Advancements-
The panel discussion at TN GIM 2024 further echoed the importance of creating a supportive environment for technological advancements. Rahul Mammen Mappillai, managing director of MRF Ltd., highlighted the importance of research and development investments in driving transformation.
Shankar Vanavarayar, Chairman of CII Tamil Nadu, emphasized the crucial role of academia and universities in fostering the research ecosystem. Anjali Singh, executive chairperson of Anand Group, rounded out the discussion by stressing the need for upskilling in specific areas like machine learning and EV technology to prepare for the demands of Industry 4.0.
