Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnavannounced the Cabinet's approval of NBS rates for P&K fertilizers for the Kharif season of 2025 (April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025). The approved subsidy is Rs 13,000 crore, more than the previous Rabi season. This support will be given to fertilizer companies to ensure that farmers get essential nutrients at affordable prices.
The government provides 28 grades of P&K fertilizers at subsidized rates through manufacturers and importers. The NBS scheme, introduced in April 2010, regulates the subsidy based on international raw materials prices like urea, DAP, MOP, and sulfur. The freight subsidy for Single Super Phosphate (SSP) has also been extended until the Kharif season of 2025.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the subsidy would prevent price hikes and keep DAP fertilizer at Rs 1,350 per 50 kg bag. This initiative will reduce farmer’s production costs, improve soil health, and support better crop yields. The government remains committed to ensuring that farmers get fertilizers at stable and reasonable rates.
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel assured that the subsidy would maintain price stability for DAP and other fertilizers. It will also shield farmers from rising international prices. Additionally, the Department of Fertilizers is in talks with resource-rich nations to secure raw materials at competitive rates, ensuring a steady supply for Indian farmers.
