The government has introduced a new scheme to provide compensation to farmers whose crops are damaged by fire. Named the Chief Minister Farm Barn Accident Assistance Scheme, it aims to assist farmers who suffer losses due to unforeseen fire accidents in their fields. This initiative comes as an addition to the existing PM Crop Insurance Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana), which covers damages caused by weather-related factors like rain, hailstorms, or storms but doesn't include losses due to arson.

Under this scheme, farmers can receive financial aid if their crops are burnt due to short circuits or other accidental fires. The assistance amount varies based on the extent of the loss. Farmers with less than 2.5 acres of land can receive Rs 15,000, while those with 2.5 to 5 acres are eligible for Rs 20,000, and those with more than 5 acres can get Rs 30,000. Additionally, in cases of significant losses, farmers may receive compensation exceeding Rs 1 lakh.
The scheme covers cereal crops like wheat, paddy, maize, millet, moong, lentils, and rye. However, damages to the sugarcane crops are not included. To qualify for assistance, farmers must be permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh and provide evidence of the fire accident that caused the loss of crops.

Farmers must apply for assistance within 15 days of the fire incident at the Agricultural Producer Market Committee office. The application should include essential documents such as a photo of the farmer, a mobile number linked to Aadhaar, photos of the accident site, a self-attested declaration form, and the farmer's signature or thumb impression. All documents should be uploaded online in specific formats, with sizes not exceeding 100 KB.
The Chief Minister Farm Barn Accident Assistance Scheme is a significant step towards supporting farmers facing crop losses due to fire accidents. By providing timely compensation, the government aims to mitigate the financial burden on affected farmers and ensure their continued livelihood.
