Volvo Trucks adds a 14-tonne FL Electric with LFP batteries, 200 km range, fast charging, and city-friendly design, strengthening its medium-duty electric truck lineup.

Volvo Trucks has expanded its electric truck portfolio by introducing a new 14-tonne variant of the Volvo FL Electric. This new medium-duty electric truck brings fresh technology, improved flexibility, and a more practical option for urban and regional transport. Production of the 14-tonne Volvo FL Electric is planned to begin in the second half of 2026.
The Volvo FL Electric has been part of Volvo Trucks lineup since 2019 and was earlier available in 16-tonne and 18-tonne configurations. With the addition of the 14-tonne model, Volvo is now offering a more accessible entry-level option in the medium-duty electric truck segment.
The new 14-tonne FL Electric comes with a 180 kW electric motor and a usable battery capacity of 145 kWh. According to Volvo Trucks, this setup delivers a driving range of up to 200 km, depending on factors such as load, driving style, and ambient temperature.
The electric truck supports 43 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging. Volvo states that a DC fast charge from 0 to 100 percent can be completed in around one hour.
Buyers can choose from multiple wheelbase options ranging from 3.8 metres to 6.5 metres, making it suitable for different body types and applications. The truck also offers a ground clearance of 24 cm, along with additional axle and battery configurations that will be revealed later.
A major highlight of this launch is the use of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, marking a first for Volvo Trucks. The batteries have a gross capacity of 176 kWh and are supplied by CATL. These LFP batteries will not only power the new 14-tonne FL Electric but will also be introduced across other Volvo electric models.
The same battery technology will be used in the Volvo FL Electric 16- and 18-tonne variants and the Volvo FE Electric, which supports gross vehicle weights of up to 27 tonnes.
The technical specifications of the Volvo FL Electric 14-tonne closely match those of the Renault Trucks E-Tech D14, unveiled recently at Solutrans in Lyon. Both brands operate under the Volvo Group and share common electric platforms.
The Renault version offers useful reference points, including a payload capacity of 6.7 tonnes, a width of 2.39 metres, and a tight turning circle of under 7.3 metres with a 3.8-metre wheelbase.
Volvo Trucks highlights that the new FL Electric strikes an ideal balance between payload capacity and manoeuvrability. Its compact size makes it well-suited for inner-city and door-to-door deliveries, while the electric drivetrain ensures zero tailpipe emissions and low noise levels.
Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, said, “This is a perfect inner-city workhorse with no tailpipe emissions. Customers should only buy as much battery capacity as they need to maximise payload and profitability.”
The battery placement in the new FL Electric is designed to avoid interference with frame-mounted bodywork, improving flexibility for body builders. Volvo also confirmed that the new LFP batteries will gradually replace older NCA battery packs used in existing models.
Currently, FL and FE Electric trucks are sold across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. With the launch of the 14-tonne FL Electric, Volvo Trucks now offers eight battery-electric truck models and has sold over 5,000 electric trucks globally, including more than 1,000 units in Germany.
This latest addition further strengthens Volvo Trucks’ position in the growing medium-duty electric commercial vehicle market.
