NHEV and Transvolt launch 1,000 electric trucks in India with global finance, subsidies, and policy support, boosting clean freight transport and reducing logistics costs.

Key Highlights

In a big step for India’s clean mobility mission, National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) and Transvolt Mobility have announced the deployment of 1,000 electric trucks across the country. The announcement was made on World EV Day 2025, marking the successful completion of a year-long technical and commercial trial that started in Chennai last year.

From Pilot Trial to Nationwide Rollout

The trial, which began on World EV Day 2024, was designed to test how well heavy-duty electric trucks perform on Indian freight routes. It brought together policymakers, logistics players, financiers, and OEMs to build a framework for mass adoption.

Key enablers included:

Strong Financing and Policy Push

The project has received major financial backing, making the large-scale rollout possible.

Lower Costs Driving Adoption

Industry experts highlighted that the cost of electric trucks is expected to fall from ₹1.25 crore to around ₹90 lakh, bringing them closer to diesel trucks in terms of price. This price cut is projected to reduce logistics costs by up to 10%, encouraging wider adoption by shipping companies, ports, and construction firms.

Green Freight Future for India

The new fleet of electric trucks will be deployed across Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals, ports, and major freight corridors, carrying goods such as cement, steel, coal, automobiles, and other bulk materials.

With strong public-private partnerships, policy support, and climate finance models, this rollout of 1,000 electric trucks marks a turning point for India’s freight transport sector. It will accelerate the shift towards zero-emission logistics, making India’s supply chain cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready.
