Montra Electric to unveil Manesar eHCV facility with 6,000 truck capacity, all-women battery line, 60% automation, and strong localization for India’s sustainable freight future.
India’s first all-women automated battery production unit.
Production capacity of 6,000 trucks, scalable to 7,500.
60% robotics integration with Industry 4.0 practices.
74% component localization to boost Make-in-India.
In-house 1.7 GWh battery pack assembly and advanced testing.
Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), the clean mobility brand of the Murugappa Group, has announced the launch of its state-of-the-art electric heavy commercial vehicle (eHCV) manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. This marks a major milestone in India’s journey toward sustainable freight solutions and strengthens Montra Electric’s position in the electric truck market.
One of the biggest highlights of the Manesar facility is India’s first all-women, fully automated battery production unit. This step shows Montra Electric’s commitment to gender inclusivity and women's empowerment in the EV industry.
The facility is spread across 255,000 sq. ft. with a built-up area of 150,000 sq. ft. It is designed to produce 6,000 trucks annually on a two-shift basis, with scalability to 7,500 units by adding more shifts. The plant will have the capability to produce multiple product variants, including the Rhino EV series and upcoming models, giving Montra Electric flexibility for future expansions.
The Manesar factory will feature 60% robotics integration and full Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing practices. It will include Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) integrated with conveyor lines for efficient and smooth production.
In-house battery pack assembly capacity will be 1.7 GWh per year. The facility will also have a comprehensive testing infrastructure, including:
Electricals & Electronics (E&E) labs
Quality Assurance (QA) labs
Battery pack cyclers
Roll and brake testers
Wheel alignment systems
Headlamp aiming and shower testing facilities
Additionally, it will host R&D and prototype workshops to speed up product development and innovation.
Montra Electric aims to source 74% of its components locally, excluding imported cells, to strengthen supply chain resilience and support Make-in-India initiatives.
The plant has been designed with sustainability as a priority, featuring battery recycling, waste management systems, and on-site charging infrastructure. Future expansion plans include the integration of renewable energy. The company also plans local community engagement through skill development programs and environmental campaigns, such as tree plantation drives.
Speaking about the launch, Mr. P.V. Satyanarayana, Chief Business Officer, Montra Electric HCV (IPL Tech), said: “The inauguration of our EV truck factory in Manesar marks a defining step in India’s transition to sustainable logistics. This state-of-the-art facility combines scale, flexibility, and world-class quality. By fostering inclusivity through our all-women battery line and driving high localization, we are setting new benchmarks for innovation, employment, and green mobility. We are confident this factory will emerge as a hub that powers the future of mobility in India for years to come.”
Montra Electric will apply for benefits under the PM E-Drive Scheme and explore additional state-level incentives to support its manufacturing growth.
