About Michelin India
Michelin operates a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, located 50 km north of Chennai at SIPCOT Thervoy Kandigai Industrial Park. The facility spans 290 acres and focuses on producing radial truck and bus tyres. In 2009, Michelin signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to establish the plant. By the first quarter of 2014, the plant began commercial production of radial truck tyres. The project involved over 700 people, including 350 Indian employees who received training in 12 countries.
The facility required the installation of 4,500 tonnes of machinery and 280,000 meters of cable. Michelin has implemented its “Green Factory” concept at the Chennai plant. As part of this program, over 6,000 saplings have been planted on-site to promote environmental sustainability. The plant continues to play a key role in supporting Michelin’s operations in India.
