The Mercedes-Benz's new Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 has a maximum trailer load capacity of 1,000 tons
Mercedes-Benz Trucks has delivered a heavy-duty transport (SLT) truck to the Viktor Baumann company. Viktor Baumann, a heavy-duty transport company that specializes in such applications, will utilize their new truck to deliver transformers and heat exchangers.
The new Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 has a maximum trailer load capacity of 1,000 tons. The truck will drive in tandem with multiple connected vehicles to transport heavy cargo.
The new Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 is intended as the last towing vehicle and hence as a link to the trailer. It will have a trailer weight of up to 1,000 tons on the trailer coupler. Such loads are required to carry heavy and massive commodities such as heat exchangers or transformers to their destination.
The Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 is the only all-wheel drive truck with a wide cab in the Arocs model line. Paul Nutzfahrzeuge completed this critical phase in the conversion process. Mercedes-Benz Trucks' contract partner RKG TruckService, the Mercedes-Benz Wörth factory, and the Mercedes-Benz Molsheim conversion plant were also involved in the vehicle's conversion.
In Baumann's extremely heavy-duty applications, three, or more trucks coupled together pull a multi-axle platform, such as a low loader or girder bridge, from the front, while another truck pushes from the rear.
The Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) business group implements special customer requests in Mercedes-Benz Trucks' largest conversion plant. The vehicle was given an additional axle at the plant in Molsheim, France, and therefore became an 8x6 four-axle truck. The retrofitting also includes a fifth-wheel coupling, a heavy-duty slider, and heavy-duty trailer connectors.
The heavy-duty coupling Rockinger type 56e is installed in the front. The Rockinger-type RO58E 1000-ton trailer coupling is mounted at the rear. A rear-mounted cooling system, as well as a 900-litre fuel tank and the hydraulic system for semitrailer steering, were fitted behind the cab. The requirements for the heavy-duty tractor unit were reached after around 14 weeks, and the conversion in Molsheim was accomplished.

Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH, a key partner of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, handles commercial vehicle bodywork and conversion, as well as providing solutions for special-purpose vehicles. The Paul conversion team replaced the StreamSpace cab with the big BigSpace cab with a width of 2.5 metres in the Baumann heavy-duty truck.
The interior of this truck, including the instrument panel, bed, and drawers, will be changed. The Paul company also constructed an extra tower with stowage boxes behind the cab and affixed the Greiner company's ballast platform.
The new Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 with 625 hp will hit the road for the first time as soon as the relevant clearances are achieved. It will most likely drive at night, in tandem with other trucks, with a gross total weight of 1,000 tons.
