2nd October 2025 – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. celebrated its 80th Founders Day, marking eight decades of contributions to India’s growth and innovation. The company was formally established on October 2, 1945, by J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. At that time, India was still under British colonial rule and facing social and economic challenges.
In 1945, before India’s independence, Mahindra published an advertisement in The Times of India, calling people from all communities to come together and build a company based on justice, opportunity, and enterprise. This bold step showed the founders’ belief in inclusivity during a period of global unrest.
Chairman Anand Mahindra highlighted that the group was built with the purpose of supporting nation-building, industrial growth, job creation, and community empowerment. He further emphasized the company’s renewed commitment to help India achieve its technological goals.
Group CEO and Managing Director Dr. Anish Shah added that the founders were guided more by principles than profits. He said values like entrepreneurship, integrity, and diversity remain at the heart of Mahindra’s growth across multiple sectors, including mobility, technology, finance, hospitality, and renewable energy.
Mahindra began its journey by producing Willys Jeeps in post-war India. Today, the group operates in more than 100 countries, with businesses that contribute to industries forming nearly 70% of India’s GDP.
The company focuses not only on growth but also on sustainability, skill development, gender diversity, and rural progress.
As Mahindra enters its ninth decade, it continues to follow a model of purpose-driven growth. The group positions itself as a platform that unites people, businesses, and partners, with employees at its core. Success is measured not only in revenues but also in the positive impact on communities.
Project Kaabil – providing women with skills training.
Nanhi Kali – supporting the education of underprivileged girls.
Sustainability and rural development programs – to improve lives nationwide.
Despite current global economic and political challenges, Mahindra believes India has the potential to strengthen its manufacturing sector through its strong workforce, infrastructure, and supportive policies. The group is also working towards building a stronger global brand presence.
Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group is one of India’s largest conglomerates. Its businesses span across automotive, farm equipment, IT, finance, logistics, real estate, hospitality, renewable energy, and agriculture. The group employs more than 324,000 people in over 100 nations and is committed to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals while driving both urban and rural prosperity.
