Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and a top-five global silver producer, has taken a major step toward sustainable logistics by launching a fleet of 40 Electric Vehicle (EV) Bulker trucks at its Zinc Smelter Debari in Udaipur.
The new fleet has been deployed in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd. under a long-term 8-year contract. These electric bulkers will transport calcine, a sand-like by-product of the roasting process, from Zinc Smelter Debari to the world’s largest single-location integrated zinc-lead smelter in Chittorgarh. The first batch of 10 trucks is already operational, with the remaining vehicles to be rolled out in the coming months.
This initiative is part of Hindustan Zinc’s larger Net Zero by 2050 mission, aimed at reducing logistics-related carbon emissions while improving fleet safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Strengthening its green mobility strategy, Hindustan Zinc also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Enviiiro Wheels to deploy electric buses for employee transportation at Zinc Smelter Debari. Transitioning from diesel-powered buses to electric alternatives will help cut Scope 3 emissions while providing safer and cleaner commuting options for its workforce.
Mr. Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited, said: "We are embedding sustainability into our logistics strategy to build a clean, connected, and future-ready ecosystem. These electric mobility solutions reduce our carbon footprint and enhance operational efficiency, workforce safety, and long-term value, aligning with our vision of decarbonising operations and supporting India’s green industrial growth."
Mr. Praveen Somani, CEO of Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd., added: "Hindustan Zinc’s endeavour is a milestone in India’s manufacturing landscape. Our green logistics solutions support their decarbonisation vision. We are proud to deploy 40 additional electric bulkers, demonstrating the vital role of eco-friendly mobility in achieving sustainability goals."
Hindustan Zinc is actively reducing its carbon footprint through multiple initiatives:
Increasing the share of renewable energy, including a 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy power agreement.
Improving operational efficiency through turbine upgrades, cellhouse enhancements, and the use of cleaner fuels.
Maintaining global sustainability recognition, including joining the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) 2025 and achieving validated Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) targets aligned with the 1.5°C global warming threshold.
Being recognized among the Top 1% in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for two consecutive years.
With these initiatives, Hindustan Zinc continues to set benchmarks in sustainable industrial practices, reinforcing its role in India’s journey toward a low-carbon, future-ready economy.
Hindustan Zinc’s deployment of 40 electric bulkers and plans for electric buses demonstrate its commitment to sustainable logistics and green industrial growth. These initiatives enhance operational efficiency, workforce safety, and significantly reduce carbon emissions. With continued investments in renewable energy and innovative efficiency projects, Hindustan Zinc is not only setting industry benchmarks but also actively supporting India’s transition to a low-carbon, environmentally responsible, and future-ready economy.
