Deployment Across Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh
The buses will operate in 6 cities in Madhya Pradesh and 11 cities in Andhra Pradesh. GreenCell is working with VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) for its project in Madhya Pradesh and with Pinnacle Mobility Solutions (EKA Mobility) in Andhra Pradesh. It is also setting up charging stations to support the operation of these electric buses.
Expanding Green Mobility
At present, GreenCell operates 900 electric buses in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. With the new contracts, its zero-emission bus services will expand to two additional states.
Leadership Insights:
Vinod Aggarwal, CEO of VECV, highlighted that their Eicher buses have covered 1.4 crore kilometers in India. Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of EKA Mobility, called the partnership a move toward sustainable cities.
Devndra Chawla, GreenCell’s CEO, said this is a big step toward cleaner public transport in India.
PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme
The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme aims to introduce electric buses across several states to reduce air pollution and upgrade public transport systems. It includes a Payment Security Mechanism to ensure operators' financial stability and offers comprehensive maintenance services. The PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme aims to deploy 10,000 electric buses across India. CESL introduced a tender for 4,588 buses in 2024-25 to support this goal, aligning with India’s push to electrify public transport.
Why Electric Buses Matter
India’s transport sector contributes 13% of the country’s carbon emissions. Electric buses have a range of over 250 kilometers, fast-charging features, and zero tailpipe emissions. Each bus can cut about 100 tons of carbon dioxide yearly compared to diesel buses, helping reduce air pollution and reliance on imported fuels.

CMV360 Says
GreenCell Mobility’s contract for over 1,200 electric buses is a promising step for India’s clean energy goals. However, timely execution and maintenance will be the main factor in maximising impact. This move strengthens India’s push for sustainable cities, but scaling up to 10,000 buses nationwide will need consistent policy support and investment.
