India’s three-wheeler sales reached 1,03,105 units in August 2025, down 7.47% MoM and 2.26% YoY. Bajaj led while Mahindra and TVS gained momentum.

Passenger e-rickshaw sales fell 16.64% YoY to 36,969 units.
Goods carrier sales rose 12.09% YoY to 9,697 units.
Mahindra Group achieved 18.16% market share, nearly doubling YoY.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the three-wheeler retail sales data for August 2025. As per the report, a total of 1,03,105 three-wheelers were sold across India, reflecting a 7.47% month-on-month (MoM) decline from 1,11,426 units in July 2025 and a 2.26% year-on-year (YoY) drop from 1,05,493 units in August 2024.

Total Three-Wheelers (3W): In August 2025, total three-wheeler retail sales stood at 1,03,105 units, falling from 1,11,426 units in July 2025 and 1,05,493 units in August 2024. This reflects a 7.47% month-on-month (MoM) decline and a 2.26% year-on-year (YoY) drop.
E-Rickshaw (Passenger): Sales in this segment reached 36,969 units in August 2025, down from 39,798 units in July 2025 and 44,346 units in August 2024. This shows a 7.11% MoM fall and a sharp 16.64% YoY decline.
E-Rickshaw with Cart (Goods): A total of 6,213 units were sold in August 2025, compared to 6,813 units in July 2025 and 4,396 units in August 2024. This indicates an 8.81% MoM drop but a strong 41.33% YoY growth, highlighting rising demand for small cargo carriers.
Three-Wheeler (Goods Carrier): This segment recorded 9,697 units in August 2025, slightly lower than 9,862 units in July 2025 but higher than 8,651 units in August 2024. It registered a 1.67% MoM decline but a 12.09% YoY increase, showing steady growth in commercial applications.
Three-Wheeler (Passenger Carrier): Passenger carrier sales stood at 50,100 units in August 2025, down from 54,861 units in July 2025 but higher than 48,012 units in August 2024. The segment witnessed an 8.68% MoM decline but a 4.35% YoY rise, continuing to be the largest contributor.
Three-Wheeler (Personal Use): This small segment registered 126 units in August 2025, higher than 92 units in July 2025 and 88 units in August 2024. It showed a 36.96% MoM increase and a strong 43.18% YoY growth, though its overall share remains minimal.

Bajaj Auto continued to dominate the three-wheeler market in August 2025 with 35,159 units sold. However, sales declined compared to 37,763 units in August 2024. Its market share stood at 34.10%, down slightly from 35.80% a year ago. Despite this dip, Bajaj retained the top position, showing the continued strength of its passenger and goods carrier lineup across India.
The Mahindra Group recorded a strong combined retail of 18,720 units in August 2025, a sharp rise from 11,413 units in August 2024. This boosted its total market share to 18.16%, compared to just 10.89% last year, reflecting a growing presence in both ICE and electric three-wheelers.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd sold 9,360 units, up from 5,742 units in August 2024. Its market share grew from 5.44% to 9.08%, driven by higher demand for passenger and goods three-wheelers.
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd (MLMM) contributed 9,343 units, rising from 5,671 units in August 2024. Its market share increased from 5.38% to 9.06%, showcasing strong demand for Mahindra’s electric three-wheeler portfolio.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (Others) sold just 17 units, compared to 71 units last year, with a market share of 0.02%.
Piaggio sold 6,725 units in August 2025, lower than 7,385 units in August 2024. Its market share dipped to 6.52% from 7.00% a year ago. The decline highlights rising competition in both passenger and goods segments, especially from electric-focused OEMs.
TVS Motors delivered another strong performance with 4,384 units sold in August 2025, nearly doubling from 2,246 units in August 2024. Its market share rose sharply from 2.13% to 4.25%, signaling its growing acceptance in the electric and last-mile mobility space.
YC Electric recorded 3,424 units in August 2025, slightly lower than 3,793 units in August 2024. Its market share slipped to 3.32% from 3.60%. Despite this dip, it remains a key player in the passenger e-rickshaw segment.
Saera Electric sold 2,172 units in August 2025, compared to 2,807 units a year ago. Its market share fell from 2.66% to 2.11%, reflecting increasing pressure from both established and emerging EV brands.
Atul Auto maintained steady performance with 2,107 units sold in August 2025, nearly identical to 2,102 units in August 2024. Its market share held stable at 2.04%, showing consistent demand for its offerings.
Dilli Electric retailed 1,816 units in August 2025, down from 2,207 units in August 2024. Its market share reduced slightly from 2.09% to 1.76%, marking a decline in traction compared to last year.
Mini Metro reported 1,151 units in August 2025, compared to 1,338 units last year. Its market share stood at 1.12%, lower than 1.27% in August 2024, showing a small contraction in sales.
Energy Electric Vehicles sold 1,080 units in August 2025, a drop from 1,307 units in August 2024. Its market share declined from 1.24% to 1.05%, but it continues to maintain a stable presence in the EV market.
All other manufacturers combined sold 35,727 units in August 2025, lower than 38,803 units in August 2024. Their collective market share decreased from 36.78% to 34.65%, but this group still forms a large part of the market, especially in semi-urban and rural EV adoption.
The three-wheeler segment in August 2025 recorded a slowdown with 1,03,105 units sold, impacted by declines in the passenger e-rickshaw and passenger carrier categories. However, the goods carrier and personal use segments showed positive growth. Bajaj Auto continued to lead, while the Mahindra Group achieved strong gains in both conventional and electric three-wheelers. TVS Motors also posted impressive growth, signaling rising acceptance of EV-based last-mile solutions. With urban and semi-urban mobility needs expanding, the sector is expected to regain momentum in the upcoming festive season.
