Epsilon Carbon launches six LNG-powered trucks to cut emissions and improve fuel efficiency, supporting cleaner transport and sustainability goals in the tyre industry.

Key Highlights:

Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of carbon black, has launched six LNG (liquified natural gas)-powered container trucks to deliver carbon black to tyre companies. The move signals the company’s push towards greener and more energy-efficient logistics.

Benefits of LNG trucks

These LNG trucks offer significant environmental benefits over traditional diesel trucks. They are expected to lower carbon dioxide emissions by 20–25%, cut nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 90%, and nearly eliminate particulate matter emissions. The trucks also promise 5–10% better fuel efficiency, helping reduce fuel consumption and overall logistics costs.

Supporting Industry-Wide Emission Cuts

The use of LNG trucks will also help Epsilon and its customers, particularly in the tyre sector, reduce Scope 3 emissions, indirect emissions from transport. These reductions can be reported by tyre manufacturers in their sustainability records, supporting their environmental commitments.

Leadership insights:

Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, said India’s freight transport sector needs cleaner solutions, as it handles almost 70% of the country’s cargo. He added that this shift to LNG-powered vehicles aligns with India’s larger decarbonization goals and reflects Epsilon’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

Designed for Medium-Range Hauls

Each truck in the fleet can cover around 500 kilometers on a full tank, making them suitable for mid- to long-distance routes. Epsilon plans to expand the LNG fleet in phases, depending on demand and performance.
