EcoFuel Systems (India) Ltd. has secured a ₹66 crore contract from the Tamil Nadu government to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG. The project will be implemented across multiple State Transport Depots over the next 12 months, aiming to significantly reduce the state’s carbon footprint.
The CNG conversion is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by 5.7 lakh tonnes annually, supporting Tamil Nadu’s clean transport and sustainability goals.
With this order, EcoFuel Systems total converted fleet in India will exceed 1,500 buses, positioning the company among the largest players in the diesel-to-CNG conversion market. The company will use certified CNG conversion kits and advanced technology to maintain safety and fuel efficiency.
Virendra Vora, Founder and Chairman of EcoFuel, said, "Tamil Nadu’s decision to convert diesel buses to CNG reflects progressive leadership in clean mobility. This project validates our commitment to sustainable innovation and ensures economic and environmental benefits for public transport corporations."
The Tamil Nadu project aligns with India’s National Green Mobility Mission, which aims to transition public transport fleets to low-emission alternatives by 2030. CNG retrofits provide a cost-effective solution for decarbonization compared to fully electric buses, avoiding high capital investment.
