Key Highlights:

Clean Electric, a startup specializing in energy storage solutions, has unveiled a new rapid recharging battery technology that can fully charge electric vehicles in under 12 minutes.

This breakthrough significantly reduces current charging times, which typically range from 60 to 120 minutes. The technology, backed by Kalaari Capital, utilizes universal CCS 2 DC charging standards, ensuring compatibility across all EV models.

Technological Advancements

Its co-founder, Akash Gupta, stated that the company's fireproof batteries have been tested for 3700 rapid charge cycles with only 11% deterioration in the total range. The energy storage solution provider manufactures the batteries at its production facility in Pune, which is capable of producing up to 1200 battery packs every month.

"I firmly believe Clean Electric will play a crucial role in accelerating the transition to renewable energy-powered electric vehicles. We should also emphasize 'Design in India' alongside 'Make in India' to establish India as a global technology leader, inspiring other countries with successful scalable models that benefit humanity," added Gupta.

Last year, the company raised $2.2 million (about Rs 18 crore) in a fundraising round headed by Kalaari Capital. Climate Angels, LV Fund, 7Square Ventures, and the CIIE Regional Innovation Foundation all participated in the seed fundraising round.

Clean Electric has been working on its technology for 4 years and has received 4 patents in both the US and domestically. Their innovative battery designs include several industry-first technologies.

These include direct contact liquid cooling (DCLC) for electric 4-wheelers (e-4W) and large battery systems, self-contained adaptive active liquid cooling (SCALC) for electric 2-wheelers (e-2W) and 3-wheelers (e-3W), and DCLC with Integrated cell to pack (CTP) battery architecture.

These advancements ensure safer batteries by reducing the risk of overheating and allow for rapid charging while maintaining high efficiency and extending the electric vehicle (EV) range without causing extra wear on the batteries.

"This is an important turning point for everyone at Clean Electric; our proprietary 12-minute charging technology establishes a new global standard that will propel the EV industry forward. Committed to sustainability, we aspire to democratize RAPID Charging for EVs with long battery life, decreasing environmental impact and changing the future of electric vehicles," stated Ankit Joshi, Chief Product Officer of Clean Electric.

The company is presently collaborating with EV OEMs in e-car, e-2W, electric three wheelers, e-LCV, and established startups to overcome major barriers to mainstream adoption.

Clean Electric recently held a live demonstration in Pune, showcasing a 2.2 kWh e-2W battery and 12.5 kWh e-3W, charging from 0-80% State of Charge (SOC) in just 10 minutes at a constant charge rate of 5C using a BIS-approved Type 6, Bharat DC-001, and globally accepted CCS 2 DC Public Charger, making it the world's fastest-charging production electric vehicle.
