BMW has chosen Apollo Tyres' Vredestein Ultrac summer tyre as the original equipment for the company's new BMW X1 sports utility vehicle. The Ultrac tyres will be shipped directly to BMW's manufacturing site in Regensburg, Germany, and will also be available for replacement.

The new OE supply agreement for the X1 expands on an earlier collaboration between the two firms when the BMW Group chose Apollo Tyres' Vredestein Ultrac tyres as the standard fit for the current BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

"Product quality, technological collaboration, and constant supply are all crucial for this type of OE arrangement," says Benoit Rivallant, President and CEO of Apollo Tyres Europe.

The Ultrac tyres will be provided to BMW in the size 205/65 R17 100Y XL stamped with a star symbol on the sidewall. This tyre will be manufactured in Apollo's Gyöngyöshalász facility in Hungary.

A star mark on the sidewall indicates that the tyre was designed specifically for the German OEM. The two collaborated to verify that the product meets the requirements.

To assure long-term support for BMW X1 customers, Apollo Tyres and the BMW Group will make the Ultrac tyres accessible on the replacement market and at BMW licensed dealers.

Vredestein Ultrac Tyre Performance

Apollo's latest Ultrac tire portfolio outperforms its predecessor by 15% in dry and wet handling, thanks to an improved tyre cavity with a squarer footprint, a firmer tread pattern, and a central rib with parabolic lateral grooves.

As a result, it improves steering reaction and precision and safer driving qualities. The rolling resistance of the tyre has also been reduced by 5% for increased fuel efficiency and fewer CO2 emissions.

Furthermore, the Ultrac has 50% more traction-enhancing silica and resin components than its predecessor, resulting in 10% better braking in dry and wet conditions. .

The lowered apex height, optimized sidewall design, and larger flex zone improve shock absorption and noise reduction. Furthermore, the pitch sequence of the tires has been optimized for various tyre diameters to improve acoustic comfort.
