In a major relief for farmers facing crop losses, the Bihar government has announced financial assistance under the Agricultural Input Subsidy Scheme. The decision comes after unseasonal rains, strong winds, storms, and hailstorms caused widespread damage to standing crops across the state.
Farmers in 13 districts who suffered losses during the third and fourth weeks of March can now apply for compensation. The last date to submit applications is May 5, and eligible farmers are advised to complete the process on time.
The sudden change in weather during late March severely impacted farmers. Heavy rains, hailstorms, and strong winds damaged crops at a critical stage.
Wheat crops were flattened due to strong winds
Horticulture crops like mango and litchi suffered heavy losses
Large areas across multiple districts reported crop damage
Farmers had been demanding compensation, and the government has now responded with financial support.
To support affected farmers, the state government will provide assistance under the Agricultural Input Subsidy Scheme. This scheme is designed to help farmers recover from crop losses and prepare for the next sowing season.
According to official information:
Farmers from 88 blocks and 1,484 panchayats will be covered
Assistance will be given based on verified crop damage surveys
Funds will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts
This ensures transparency and timely delivery of benefits.
The subsidy amount depends on the type of land and crops affected:
₹8,500 per hectare for non-irrigated (rain-fed) land
₹17,000 per hectare for irrigated land
₹22,500 per hectare for perennial crops like sugarcane
To ensure small farmers are not left out, the government has also fixed minimum assistance:
₹1,000 for non-irrigated land
₹2,000 for irrigated land
₹2,500 for perennial crops
The scheme is inclusive and will benefit a wide range of farmers:
Both registered and non-raiyat farmers can apply
Assistance will be calculated based on the farmer and their family
Providing complete family details is mandatory during application
Applicants must also complete Aadhaar verification. The government has warned that any incorrect information will lead to rejection.
