Global automotive technology company Aptiv PLC has announced a major partnership with a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in India to supply its Generation 6 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) platform for upcoming trucks and buses. This marks Aptiv’s first ADAS collaboration with an Indian commercial vehicle OEM, strengthening its presence in India’s fast-evolving mobility market.
The partnership comes at a crucial time, as India is expected to introduce new safety regulations by 2027 for commercial vehicles. These norms are likely to make advanced safety features mandatory, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and pedestrian and obstacle detection systems. Aptiv’s ADAS solution is designed to help manufacturers meet these requirements while maintaining cost efficiency.
Aptiv’s Gen 6 ADAS platform combines Generation 8 radar, Generation 7 smart cameras, and STRADVISION’s AI-based vision software. The system has been specially adapted for Indian road conditions, enabling accurate detection of three-wheelers, large animals, pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users commonly seen on Indian highways and city roads.
Unlike passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles face challenges such as larger blind spots, longer operating hours, harsh environments, and heavy-duty driving cycles. Aptiv’s platform addresses these demands while also reducing system complexity through a uni-voltage architecture. This architecture allows smoother integration across multiple vehicle platforms.
The ADAS solution will be deployed across 14 commercial vehicle models and more than 30 variants for the OEM partner. It is powered by Aptiv’s modular ADAS software, which is already in production in over 40 million vehicles worldwide.
The system supports over-the-air (OTA) updates through Aptiv’s LINC Software Platform, ensuring vehicles remain up to date without physical intervention. It also runs on Wind River’s VxWorks real-time operating system, known for its reliability in safety-critical automotive applications.
Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Intelligent Systems at Aptiv, stated that the company is ready to support Indian OEMs with locally tested, cost-effective safety technologies. He highlighted that the platform builds on proven systems already deployed across Europe, North America, and the Asia Pacific.
Arun Devaraj, Vice President and Managing Director of Intelligent Systems for Aptiv Asia Pacific (Non-China), emphasized that India’s mobility ecosystem is changing rapidly due to regulatory push and rising safety awareness. He noted that close collaboration with OEMs is central to Aptiv’s strategy for ensuring compliance and optimized performance.
Aptiv has made significant investments in India over recent years. The company expanded its Chennai manufacturing facility in 2024 and opened a new technical center there in 2025. Aptiv India now employs 2,500 engineers and 13,000 total employees across seven manufacturing plants, four technical centers, and one tooling center nationwide.
With this partnership, Aptiv is positioned as a key contributor to India’s commercial vehicle safety transformation. As manufacturers prepare for stricter safety standards, Aptiv’s ADAS technology is expected to play an important role in making Indian trucks and buses safer, smarter, and more compliant in the years ahead.
