The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), a high-level worldwide forum based in Paris, France, has awarded Apollo Tyres' Chennai Plant the 2024 Energy Management Insight Award.

The company's Chennai facility was recognized for adopting essential parts of the energy management system, as well as the measurable benefits of:

  • Improved energy efficiency by 4% per year 
  • Saved $9,49,828 in annual energy costs 
  • Reduced carbon emissions by 5,969 tons.

CEM advocates for policies and programs that advance clean energy technology, share lessons learned and best practices, and encourage the transition to a global clean energy economy. 

Team Apollo Tyres gave insights into the process and benefits of establishing an energy management system and ensuring system adherence by using the global ISO 50001 standard. This award is part of the CEM Energy Management Leadership Award program.

Apollo Tyres, with an ultimate objective of being net zero by 2050, states that company is working towards creating climate-resilient operations. Dedicated teams and investments are being made in energy-saving projects as well as renewable energy to prepare for the future and contribute to a decarbonized society.

The company has made the following commitments to sustainability:

  • Achieving a net zero target by 2050 requires 25% improvement in Scope-1 and Scope-2 emission intensity by 2026 compared to the 2020 baseline.
  • Increase renewable energy's overall power contribution to 25% by 2026.
  • Increase water withdrawal intensity by 25% in 2026 compared to the baseline year of 2019.
  • Goal to increase D&I to 12% globally by 2026 - Target to use 40% sustainable raw materials by 2030.
