Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward clean transport. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the addition of 1,000 electric buses to the APSRTC fleet and the setup of 5,000 EV charging stations across the state. This makes AP one of India’s biggest state-level adopters of electric mobility.
APSRTC plans to move completely to electric transport within five years. The new electric buses will operate in cities, on intercity routes, and on busy travel corridors.
These buses are expected to bring several benefits, including lower fuel costs, less pollution, improved comfort and safety for travelers, and more reliable transport services. They will also support the Stree Shakti free travel scheme, offering safer and smoother travel for women.
To support this shift, the government has also cleared the establishment of 5,000 EV charging stations. These will be placed across:
Urban business areas
Bus terminals and depots
National and state highways
Tourist locations and rural routes
This network aims to make travel easier for both public buses and private electric vehicle users.
The announcement was made during a high-level review of the state’s energy plans. Andhra Pradesh’s wider clean-energy strategy includes increasing solar power, exploring pumped storage hydropower, strengthening pollution control, and installing rooftop solar systems on government buildings.
With these reforms, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a strong leader in India’s clean mobility and green energy push.

Andhra Pradesh’s decision to introduce 1,000 electric buses and set up 5,000 charging stations marks a bold transport upgrade. The plan promises cleaner air, lower costs, safer mobility for women, and faster EV adoption across regions. Alongside renewable energy expansion and rooftop solar projects, the move positions AP as a leader in sustainable development. This shift is expected to improve travel quality, cut emissions, and encourage private EV use statewide.
