Global automotive aftermarket brand ACDelco has officially returned to the Indian market through a licensing and strategic partnership between Assurance Intl Limited and General Motors. The announcement was made at a launch event in New Delhi, marking a significant step in expanding the brand’s presence in one of the world’s largest automobile markets.
Under the agreement, Assurance Intl will act as the official licensee for ACDelco in India and will be responsible for manufacturing, marketing, and nationwide distribution of select aftermarket products. The initial portfolio includes automotive batteries and high-performance lubricants designed for both passenger and commercial vehicles operating in Indian driving conditions.
At the launch event, Rakesh Sharma, Managing Director of Assurance Intl Limited, said the collaboration brings together complementary strengths from both organizations.
According to him, the partnership combines ACDelco’s global reputation in aftermarket automotive solutions with Assurance Intl’s manufacturing experience, quality standards, and strong distribution network within the Indian automotive sector.
The collaboration is expected to help the brand quickly establish its presence in India’s growing aftermarket industry, where demand for reliable spare parts and automotive fluids continues to rise with increasing vehicle ownership.
The relaunch also aligns with the broader aftermarket strategy of General Motors, which owns the ACDelco brand.
Mahesh Ravindran, Country Lead for Commercial Operations at Chevrolet Sales India, said the licensing arrangement supports GM’s global approach to expanding its aftermarket footprint.
He noted that Assurance Intl’s operational strength and understanding of local market requirements create a strong platform for reintroducing ACDelco products in India.
The first phase of the rollout will focus on two key product categories:
Automotive batteries
Engine lubricants and automotive fluids
These products are developed specifically for vehicles operating under Indian road and climate conditions. The lineup will cater to both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.
The companies also indicated that the range may expand in the future as the partnership grows and market demand evolves.
Production for the new ACDelco products will be carried out at Assurance Intl’s manufacturing facilities in Hisar, located in the state of Haryana.
The company operates a modern battery manufacturing plant at this location, which will produce automotive batteries for the Indian market under the ACDelco brand. Lubricant production will take place at a separate blending and packaging facility at the same site.
These facilities are designed to manufacture high-performance engine oils and automotive fluids while maintaining the global quality standards associated with the ACDelco name.
Localized manufacturing is also expected to help maintain competitive pricing for Indian consumers.
To ensure wide availability, Assurance Intl plans to distribute ACDelco products through a multi-tier distribution network across India.
The network will include:
Regional distributors
Automotive retailers
Independent service workshops
This structure is designed to cover both major urban automotive markets and smaller towns where demand for aftermarket automotive products is steadily increasing.
Both companies indicated that the current product launch represents the beginning of a long-term partnership. Future plans may include the development of advanced and sustainable solutions.
These may include:
Eco-friendly lubricants
Advanced battery technologies
Such innovations will support evolving vehicle technologies and growing sustainability trends within the automotive industry.
India remains one of the world’s largest automobile markets, with millions of vehicles on the road and a rapidly expanding network of independent service workshops.
The return of ACDelco is expected to strengthen competition in the aftermarket sector, which includes spare parts, lubricants, filters, and vehicle accessories. Global manufacturers often rely on licensing partnerships in markets like India to expand their presence without establishing direct manufacturing operations.
For Assurance Intl Limited, which operates across around 18 countries in South and Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and the Indian subcontinent, the partnership leverages its existing manufacturing base and established distribution infrastructure.
With this relaunch, both companies aim to build a strong position in India’s growing automotive aftermarket while delivering products that combine global quality with locally adapted solutions.
The return of ACDelco to India through a licensing partnership between Assurance Intl Limited and General Motors marks an important step in strengthening the country’s automotive aftermarket sector. With localized manufacturing, competitive pricing, and a wide distribution network, the collaboration aims to serve both passenger and commercial vehicle owners. The partnership may also open opportunities for eco-friendly lubricants and advanced battery technologies as India’s automotive industry continues to evolve.
