Delhi took another major step towards clean and sustainable public transport as SWITCH Mobility flagged off 272 electric buses in the national capital. This deployment is part of a larger 950-electric-bus order awarded under the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) tender.
The official flag-off ceremony was held at Ramlila Maidan and was led by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with senior government officials and transport department authorities.
The latest induction marks Phase 2 of the electric bus deployment in Delhi. Earlier, 93 electric buses were delivered in Phase 1, while the remaining buses will be introduced in stages across the city.
All buses under this order will be deployed at multiple depots, helping Delhi strengthen its electric public transport network and reduce dependence on fossil fuel-powered buses.
The newly deployed buses are SWITCH EiV12 Low Floor electric buses, manufactured at the company’s Tamil Nadu facility. These buses are designed to improve passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility.
Ultra-low floor entry with kneeling and tilting mechanism
Automated wheelchair ramps for easy access
Floor-mounted batteries for better stability
Rear-mounted charging ports
Advanced fire detection system
The buses are equipped with SWITCH iON technology, which monitors over 140 vehicle parameters and generates more than 80 real-time alerts, ensuring smooth operations and better fleet management.
The electric buses will operate from important locations across the city, including:
Okhla Srinivas Puri Depot
Grand Trunk Road Depot
Rajghat Bus Terminal
Ohm Global Mobility will handle operational deployment and service integration, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.
Commenting on the milestone, Ganesh Mani, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, said the deployment reflects the company’s commitment to building a strong electric mobility ecosystem in Delhi. He highlighted that the focus is on delivering high-performance, scalable electric buses that lower emissions while enhancing passenger experience.
This initiative supports Delhi’s long-term goal of becoming the city with the largest electric bus fleet in operation. The growing electric bus network is expected to significantly improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions for millions of daily commuters.
SWITCH Mobility, a part of the Hinduja Group, has deployed over 1,250 electric buses globally, covering more than 150 million kilometers. The company also manufactures electric light commercial vehicles, with over 1,000 units currently in operation worldwide.
With the latest deployment, SWITCH Mobility continues to play a key role in accelerating India’s transition to clean and sustainable public transportation.
