Key Highlights:
Namma Yatri, a Bengaluru-based mobility app, has officially launched its services in Mangalore as part of its expansion across Karnataka. Following success in cities like Bengaluru, Mysore, Tumkur, and Kalaburagi, the app aims to improve regional mobility with a driver-centric approach. The launch event was inaugurated by Karnataka Vidhana Sabha Speaker UT Khader, along with transport department officials.
Support from Leadership
During the launch, UT Khader highlighted the importance of affordable, reliable, and accessible transport for Karnataka’s development. He commended Namma Yatri's focus on empowering drivers and enhancing commuter convenience.
Promising Start in Mangalore
A month-long trial in Mangalore showed good results, with 500 trips completed and 300 drivers joining the platform in November alone. Namma Yatri plans further expansion to Manipal and Udupi, reinforcing its mission to redefine urban transportation in the state.
Community-Driven Growth
The app’s operations in Mangalore are supported by strong community endorsements. Driver enrollments grew significantly through grassroots campaigns, and Namma Yatri aims to replicate this success in other cities, with Kalaburagi being its next target.
Benefits for Drivers and Passengers
Naveen Kumar, a Namma Yatri community ambassador, emphasized the app’s transparent fare system and efficient booking process. He noted that drivers earn higher incomes while passengers benefit from lower fares and better services, fostering trust between the two groups.
Proven Success Across Karnataka
Namma Yatri’s achievements in Tumkur and Gulbarga earlier this year demonstrate its potential. Drivers completed over 2.8 lakh trips and earned approximately Rs 2 crore collectively, showcasing the platform's ability to generate sustainable livelihoods.
The app now has a network of 2.3 lakh drivers and more than 50 lakh customers across Karnataka, with an average of 1.6 lakh trips facilitated daily.
About Namma Yatri
Namma Yatri is a user-focused mobility app designed to support the Open Mobility initiative. This initiative promotes a shared ecosystem where multiple mobility service providers operate on a common platform. Such a system gives customers more options and access to a variety of transportation modes in one place.
The app is built on the Beckn Protocol, an open-source framework that ensures seamless integration between service providers. This foundation not only enhances convenience for users but also enables a unified mobility network, offering reliable and flexible travel solutions.
