Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced its new light commercial vehicle, the Mahindra Veero, with a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Mahindra Veero, which falls into the 2- to 3.5-ton category, is built on the new Urban Prosper Platform (UPP), India's first multi-energy modular CV platform. Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its new Urban Prosper Platform (UPP) to strengthen its presence in the Indian small pickup market.
The company, which already holds a 40% market share in this segment, has invested over Rs 900 crore in developing this multi-energy platform.
The UPP is India's first modular platform designed to support diesel, CNG, and electric powertrains, aiming to meet the growing demand for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles.
According to Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra's Automotive division, small pickups account for about 30% of the commercial vehicle market, with Mahindra holding a 40% share in this segment.
The company also dominates the large pickup segment with an 80% share. Mahindra plans to produce 1,20,000 units annually at its Pune facility, with initial monthly production expected to reach around 5,000 units.
The UPP is designed to support weights ranging from 1 ton to 2+ tons in a variety of deck lengths and powertrain configurations, including diesel, CNG, and electric.
The Veero is currently available with both diesel and CNG powertrains. Although an electric version will be available, Mahindra has not specified when it would enter the market.
The new Veero LCV offers two engine options: a 1.5-litre mDI diesel (80hp maximum power and 210Nm peak torque) and a turbo mCNG (90hp maximum power and 210Nm peak torque). Both engines are connected to a five-speed manual transmission.
The mileage of Veero diesel and Veero CNG is 18.4 km/l and 19.2 km/kg, respectively, which has a claimed range of more than 500 km with an additional 5-litre fuel tank. Mahindra claims that the Veero has a service interval of 20,000 kilometers.
Cargo Options
The Veero offers customizable cargo options with two lengths:
There are three types of cargo configurations: CBC, Standard Deck (SD), and High Deck (HD). The payload capacity for the diesel version is up to 1.6 tons, while the CNG version can carry up to 1.5 tons. The Veero also boasts a best-in-segment 5.1-metre turning radius.
