A big relief has come for urad farmers in Uttar Pradesh. To ensure fair prices and remove the role of middlemen, the central government agency NAFED has started preparations to procure urad directly from farmers under the Atmanirbhar Dal Yojana. Under this scheme, urad will be purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹7,800 per quintal.

NAFED will open 50 urad procurement centers across 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Farmers can directly bring their produce to these centers and sell it at MSP. This step is especially helpful for small and medium farmers who often face low prices in the open market.
The districts where Urad procurement centers will be opened include: Lalitpur, Jhansi, Mahoba, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Badaun, Bareilly, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Rampur, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Sonbhadra, Sitapur, and Shahjahanpur.
According to RK Singh, Additional Director (Extension), Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department, all preparations have been completed by NAFED. With direct government procurement, farmers will no longer depend on middlemen. This will improve transparency and help farmers earn a better income from their urad crop.
The urad purchase is being carried out under NAFED’s Atmanirbhar Dal Yojana, aimed at promoting pulse production and ensuring fair prices to farmers. Government procurement will continue till January 29, 2026.
One of the biggest benefits of this scheme is quick payment. After selling urad at the procurement center, the payment will be directly credited to the farmer’s bank account within 3 working days, reducing cash-related problems.
To avail of this benefit, registration is compulsory. Farmers can register through the e-Samriddhi app or at their nearest NAFED procurement center. Only registered farmers will be allowed to sell urad at MSP.
Urad is widely used to make foods like kachori, papad, badi, bade, halwa, imarti, puri, idli, and dosa. This initiative will not only increase farmers’ income but also strengthen pulse production in the country and support food security.
