Farmers in Uttar Pradesh are getting a big opportunity to improve irrigation at a much lower cost. The state government has launched the Trolley Mounted Solar Pump Scheme, under which farmers can get a solar pump system worth about ₹2.20 lakh by paying only around ₹76,000.
This scheme aims to reduce farmers dependence on electricity and diesel while making irrigation easier and more affordable.
Irrigation is one of the biggest challenges in farming, especially for farmers whose agricultural land is located in different places. In such cases, arranging water and moving pump sets from one field to another becomes difficult and time-consuming.
To solve this problem, the government has introduced a practical solution through trolley-mounted solar pumps. These pumps help farmers irrigate their crops without depending on electricity supply or diesel fuel.
Under the Trolley Mounted Solar Pump Scheme, farmers will receive a solar pump system mounted on a trolley. This design allows the pump to be easily moved from one field to another.
This feature is particularly useful for farmers whose fields are located at different locations. With this system, farmers can conveniently transport the pump and use it wherever irrigation is required.
For the financial year 2025–26, the Minor Irrigation Department has set a target to distribute 23 trolley-mounted solar pumps in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
These pumps will mainly be used for irrigation using water from check dams and ponds, helping farmers access water sources more efficiently.
According to Mahip Verma, the scheme includes a 2-horsepower (HP) solar pump mounted on a trolley.
The estimated costs are:
Solar pump cost: ₹1,44,526
Trolley installation cost: ₹75,000
This means the total system cost is about ₹2,19,526, which is close to ₹2.20 lakh.
To make the system affordable, the government is offering significant subsidies:
60% subsidy on the solar pump price
90% subsidy on the trolley cost
After these subsidies, farmers only need to contribute around ₹76,000 as their share.
The farmer’s contribution must be deposited with the Minor Irrigation Department through a bank draft. After completing this process, farmers will become eligible to receive the solar pump under the scheme.
Farmers who want to take advantage of this scheme must apply online.
Solar pumps will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so interested farmers are advised to apply as soon as possible.
