The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major initiative to support farmers with affordable and eco-friendly irrigation. Under the PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan) scheme, the Yogi government will distribute 40,521 subsidized solar pumps to farmers across the state for the year 2025–26.
Farmers who wish to benefit from this scheme must apply online before December 15, 2025, on the official Agriculture Department website: agriculture.up.gov.in.
This initiative is expected to reduce irrigation costs, cut diesel use, increase crop production, and reduce pressure on the electricity grid. The selection of farmers will be done through an e-lottery, giving equal opportunity to every applicant.
Farmers will receive subsidies from both the central and state governments on nine types of solar pumps. Subsidy amounts vary based on pump type and horsepower (HP).

This scheme aims to bring down agricultural costs and improve irrigation efficiency. For example, Bareilly district alone has a target of 1,002 solar pumps this year. Farmers only need to pay a ₹5,000 token amount while applying.
The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to complete their applications on time. The steps are:
Visit agriculture.up.gov.in
Click on “Book Solar Pump for Subsidy”
Fill the online application
Pay the ₹5,000 token money online
Confirmation will be sent via SMS
If selected in the e-lottery, the farmer must pay the remaining amount online after subsidy
According to Dr. Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, Director of the UP Agriculture Department:
Farmers taking bank loans for the remaining amount will get up to 6% interest subsidy under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF).
This includes 3% rebate from the Central Government and 3% from the State Government.
This benefit will significantly reduce the overall financial burden on farmers.
Dr. Tripathi also shared technical conditions that farmers must follow.
Required Boring Sizes
2 HP → 4-inch boring
3 HP & 5 HP → 6-inch boring
7.5 HP & 10 HP → 8-inch boring
The bore must belong to the farmer. If not found during verification, the application may be rejected, and the token money may be forfeited.
Maximum Water Levels
22 ft → 2 HP Surface Pump
50 ft → 2 HP Submersible Pump
150 ft → 3 HP Submersible
200 ft → 5 HP Submersible
Up to 300 ft → 7.5 HP & 10 HP Submersible
District-wise targets for 2 HP and 3 HP pumps will be shown on the portal. Farmers can choose the pump type based on their water needs.
These subsidized solar pumps will help farmers:
Reduce diesel and electricity expenses
Ensure reliable irrigation even during power cuts
Improve crop productivity
Become more self-reliant in farming operations
The government has requested farmers to complete their applications before December 15 to avoid missing this important opportunity.
The UP government’s plan to distribute over 40,000 subsidized solar pumps will greatly support farmers with low-cost, reliable, and eco-friendly irrigation. With clear eligibility rules, online applications, and an e-lottery selection process, the scheme ensures transparency and equal opportunity. Subsidies and loan benefits further reduce financial pressure. Farmers are urged to apply before December 15 to secure the benefits and move toward self-reliant, cost-saving agriculture.
