The central government has announced a big gift for women on the occasion of Navratri. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, 25 lakh new free LPG connections will be distributed across the country. With this, the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme will increase to 10.6 crore households.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri shared that the government will spend ₹2,050 per connection, which will include a free LPG cylinder, gas stove, regulator, and all related equipment. This move is aimed at empowering women, ensuring clean fuel in every home, and reducing dependency on traditional cooking fuels like wood and coal.

Women from poor families, especially from SC and ST communities, who do not have an LPG connection in their home, are eligible for this scheme.
To apply, they must have the following documents:
Aadhaar card
Ration card
Address proof
Passport-size photograph
Bank account details
Women who meet the eligibility criteria can easily apply online under Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 by following these steps:
Visit the official website https://pmuy.gov.in/e-kyc.html.
Fill out the online application form.
Select the oil company (Indane/Bharatgas/HP Gas) and type of connection (Ujjwala 2.0 New Connection).
Choose state, district, and distributor name.
Enter your mobile number, fill in the captcha, and verify using the OTP.
Provide category details, family information, personal details, address, and bank details.
Select cylinder type (rural or urban) and area.
Complete the declaration form and submit.
After submission, you will receive a reference number.
Visit the selected gas agency with this reference number to get your free connection.
Under the Ujjwala scheme, beneficiaries also get a ₹300 subsidy per cylinder refill. This means if the market price of an LPG cylinder is ₹853, the beneficiary will have to pay only ₹553 after subsidy. Currently, 10.33 crore women are already availing this benefit, and the new announcement will add 25 lakh more women to the list.
