Swaraj Tractors, a part of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., has achieved a major milestone by rolling out its 25th lakh tractor from its manufacturing plant in Mohali, Punjab. This achievement highlights the brand’s steady growth and strong presence in India’s agricultural machinery sector for more than five decades.

The company reached this landmark just three years after crossing the 20-lakh unit mark in 2022, showing continuous growth in production and customer demand. Swaraj started its journey in 1974 with the launch of the Swaraj 724, India’s first indigenously developed tractor.
Over the years, the brand has consistently grown. It touched the 5-lakh production milestone in 2002 and has now multiplied five times in the last 23 years. This shows the increasing trust of Indian farmers in Swaraj tractors.
Swaraj offers a complete range of tractors from 25 HP to 90 HP, catering to different types of farming needs. Popular models in its lineup include the Swaraj 855, Swaraj 735, Swaraj 744, and the recently launched Naya Swaraj series. These tractors are designed for different terrains and farming operations, ensuring suitability for small to large-scale farmers.
Veejay Nakra, President of Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra, said this milestone reflects the long-standing trust and confidence of farmers in the Swaraj brand.
Gaganjot Singh, CEO of Swaraj Division, highlighted that Swaraj tractors are built with a focus on affordability, reliability, and innovation based on customer needs.
The Mohali plant remains the core production hub of Swaraj, supporting distribution across India. Apart from tractors, Swaraj also produces farm machinery like harvesters and implements to support farmers in boosting productivity.
The company’s strength lies in its in-house precision manufacturing setup, which includes a captive engine plant, heavy casting foundry, and modern assembly facilities. This vertical integration helps ensure quality and efficiency in every tractor built.
What makes Swaraj unique is its team of engineers, many of whom come from farming backgrounds. This philosophy reflects in their approach, “when an engineer thinks like a farmer, he does not make a tractor… he makes… Mera Swaraj.” This thought drives the brand to design tractors that are durable, fuel-efficient, and farmer-friendly.
For over five decades, Swaraj has been playing a key role in India’s farm mechanization journey. With 25 lakh tractors already produced, the company continues to strengthen its commitment to serving Indian farmers with reliable products that meet evolving agricultural needs.
