Uttar Pradesh Seed Policy 2026 focuses on certified seeds, higher productivity, climate-resilient crops, and improved farmer income through modern seed systems.

Key Highlights

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to introduce a new and modern Uttar Pradesh Seed Policy 2026 to strengthen the agricultural sector. The main aim of this policy is to ensure the timely availability of high-quality, certified, and reliable seeds to farmers, which will help increase agricultural production, productivity, and farmers income.

Seeds are the foundation of farming, as crop quality and yield largely depend on them. Keeping this in mind, the state government is focusing on building a strong and scientific seed system that can meet future agricultural challenges and climate changes.

Chief Minister Reviews Seed Policy 2026

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a detailed review of the Seed Policy 2026 during a high-level meeting at his official residence in Lucknow. The discussion focused on increasing agricultural output, improving farmers income, and strengthening the seed supply system to adapt to changing climate conditions.

Modern Seed Policy Is Essential: Chief Minister

The Chief Minister said that the real strength of agricultural production lies in the availability of high-quality, certified, and trustworthy seeds. He highlighted that due to climate change, shrinking land holdings, and rising farming costs, a modern and scientific seed policy has become essential for Uttar Pradesh. According to him, the new policy will help farmers achieve better yields while also reducing risks in farming.

Focus on High-Yielding and Disease-Resistant Varieties

The Chief Minister directed officials to design the seed policy in a way that addresses future agricultural challenges. He emphasized giving priority to the development of high-yielding, disease-resistant, and climate-tolerant seed varieties. He also stressed that increasing total production alone is not enough; improving productivity per hectare is necessary to genuinely raise farmers income.

Certified Seeds and Traceability to Be Mandatory

It was clearly stated that every seed packet supplied to farmers must be certified, tested, and meet strict quality standards. To ensure seed purity and reliability, an end-to-end traceability system will be implemented. This system will help track the origin, processing, and quality of seeds. The Chief Minister made it clear that any negligence related to adulterated or substandard seeds will not be tolerated.

Faster Variety Release and Seed Research

To promote innovation in agriculture, the Chief Minister instructed that agricultural universities, ICAR institutes, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and private seed companies should work together on a common platform. This collaboration will speed up seed research, innovation, and the release of new seed varieties.

He also directed the establishment of at least five seed parks in the state over the next five years. These seed parks will have modern facilities for seed production, processing, quality testing, and storage within a single campus.

Special Focus on Crop Diversification

Under the Seed Policy 2026, special attention will be given to making high-quality seeds available for pulses, oilseeds, maize, millets, sorghum, and horticultural crops. To support region-specific farming needs, one Krishi Vigyan Kendra in each of the state’s nine agro-climatic zones will be developed as a Center of Excellence. These centers will focus on advanced seed development and technology-based solutions. Progressive farmers will also be linked with seed development programs to combine local experience with modern techniques.

Promoting Solar Energy in Agriculture

The Chief Minister also emphasized improving energy efficiency in farming. He called for connecting more tube wells to solar power to reduce irrigation costs for farmers and promote clean energy use. Increasing solar panel installations across the state is also expected to generate employment, attract investment, and strengthen agricultural infrastructure.

Strong Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture

The Uttar Pradesh Seed Policy 2026 aims to provide farmers with quality seeds, better productivity, and long-term agricultural sustainability. The state government believes that this policy will not only boost agricultural production but also significantly improve farmers’ income and strengthen the overall agricultural economy of Uttar Pradesh.
