The Government of India has made it mandatory for all ration cardholders to complete e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) by April 30, 2025. This move is aimed at preventing fraud, removing duplicate entries, and ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive subsidized food grains under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

If any ration cardholder fails to complete the e-KYC process by April 30, they will permanently lose access to ration benefits, even if they have a valid ration card. This step is being taken in order to improve the transparency and to bring efficiency to the system.
The government found that many people were misusing their ration benefits. Some families were receiving rations through:
Fake ration cards
Multiple cards in the same household
Cards belonging to deceased persons
Such misuse causes huge losses to the system and prevents needy families from getting their rightful share.
It is compulsory to complete e-KYC for each and every person listed on the ration card. If even one member’s KYC is incomplete, the entire family may become ineligible for ration benefits.
Ensure that all member’s Aadhaar-linked details are correct and updated.
The Samagra ID is a unique family identification number that contains all details about family members. It helps in:
Determining the quantity of ration a family can receive.
Tracking the number of beneficiaries in one household.
If a family member has passed away, their name must be removed using a death certificate. Similarly, birth certificates are needed to add new members.
To make the process easier, the government has launched a mobile app called ‘Mera e-KYC’, available on the Google Play Store. Here's a simple step-by-step process:
Download the app from the Play Store.
Log in using your Aadhaar number and the mobile number linked to it.
Enter the OTP received on your phone.
Fill in the required details and complete the verification.
You will get a confirmation message once it is successful.
This app is helpful for people who have smartphones and internet access.
For people living in villages or remote locations, who may not have access to smartphones or the internet, the government has provided offline facilities. You can:
Visit your nearest ration shop or
Go to a Common Service Centre (CSC)
Officials at these centers will help complete the e-KYC using an Aadhaar card and fingerprint verification.
Earlier, some remote and tribal areas were given exemptions from e-KYC. But now, all exemptions have been removed. After April 30, no one will get ration benefits unless their e-KYC is completed and updated fully.
This e-KYC initiative will bring better transparency, stop leakages, and improve the overall efficiency of the ration distribution system under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Ration cardholders are strongly advised to complete their e-KYC as soon as possible to avoid disqualification. Waiting until the last moment may lead to delays or missing the deadline entirely.
