The government has extended the last date for farmers to get insurance for Kharif crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) 2025. Now, loanee farmers can complete their crop insurance process till 30 August 2025.
This extension has been announced by the Department of Farmers Welfare and Agricultural Development so that more farmers can benefit from the scheme. The scheme provides financial protection against crop damage due to natural calamities, drought, floods, hailstorms, or pest attacks.
The new deadline is especially helpful for loanee farmers who have taken loans through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) but whose insurance has not been done yet by the bank. These farmers should immediately contact their respective bank branches and complete the insurance process without delay.
Farmers can easily apply for insurance under PMFBY 2025 at the following centers:
Cooperative banks
Regional rural banks
Nationalized bank branches
Public Service Centers (CSCs)
CSC online centers
The government has simplified the process and made it transparent. Farmers need to keep the following documents ready while applying for insurance:
Aadhaar Card (linked with mobile number)
Land Rights Loan Booklet / Khasra-Khatauni
Bank passbook with IFSC code clearly mentioned
Sowing Certificate (signed by Patwari, Panchayat Secretary, or Agriculture Extension Officer)
Farmer ID proof
Affidavit in case of Sikmi land (sharecropping land)
Getting crop insurance under this scheme provides several advantages to farmers:
Financial compensation for crop losses due to natural calamities.
Security of income and reduced financial risk.
Improved confidence among farmers to continue farming.
Better creditworthiness for farmers in the banking system.
The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to insure their crops before the new deadline. Many farmers face heavy losses every year due to untimely rainfall, drought, or other disasters. Through crop insurance, farmers can get compensation and maintain financial stability.
If you are a loanee farmer and have sown Kharif crops, make sure to get insurance done before 30 August 2025. You can apply through banks or CSC centers. Timely insurance will safeguard you against unexpected crop damage and help you recover losses. Farmers are advised not to wait until the last moment and complete the process at the earliest.
