The Central Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif 2025 and Rabi 2025–26 seasons. Under this scheme, farmers across India can get their crops insured till July 31, 2025, and protect their income against natural disasters. The scheme is open to loanee farmers, non-loanee farmers, and sharecroppers, and offers insurance coverage for a wide range of risks such as floods, drought, pests, and diseases.
The scheme covers all categories of farmers:
Loanee Farmers: Can apply through their bank or cooperative society.
Non-Loanee Farmers: Can apply by visiting CSC centres, post offices, banks, or agriculture department branches.
Sharecroppers: Farmers cultivating on others' land are also eligible.
According to Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Dhanraj Meena, all applications must be submitted by July 31, 2025.
The premium rates under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana are minimal:
Crop Type | Premium Rate Paid by Farmer |
Kharif Crops | 2% |
Rabi Crops | 1.5% |
Commercial/Horticulture | 5% |
The Central and State Governments will jointly pay the remaining premium amount. This makes it highly affordable for all farmers.
The scheme offers protection against the following natural risks:
Drought or long dry periods
Floods and waterlogging
Pest attacks and plant diseases
Landslides, lightning, and fire
Storms, hailstorms, and cyclones
This comprehensive coverage ensures that farmers receive financial support even if their crops are severely damaged.
If crops are damaged within 14 days of harvesting due to any of the above reasons, the farmer can register a claim using the following platforms:
Krishi Rakshak Portal
Crop Insurance App
Helpline: 14447
The claim must be filed within 72 hours of the damage. Officials from the insurance company and the agriculture department will survey the field. After assessing the loss, they will help fill out the claim form. Once approved, the insurance amount is transferred directly to the farmer’s bank account.
The last date to insure Kharif crops has been extended to July 31, 2025. Early insurance will help fast-track the claim process in case of damage.
The Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana is a separate state-level scheme for horticulture crops. Though not part of PMFBY, it offers great benefits for Haryana farmers.
