PMMSY Overview

Fish farming has become a profitable business, with many farmers earning lakhs through fish production. The government has introduced several schemes to encourage fish farming, including PMMSY, which offers training, financial assistance, and subsidies to eligible farmers.

Extension of the Application Deadline

The PMMSY scheme's application deadline was 21 February 2025, but it has now been extended to 28 February 2025. Interested individuals can apply online through the Fisheries Department's official portal, fisheries.up.gov.in. Dr. Mahesh Chauhan, the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Lucknow, confirmed the extension.

Subsidy Details

Under PMMSY, farmers can receive up to 60% subsidies for fish farming projects. The scheme aims to provide financial support to women, SC/ST farmers (60% subsidy), and OBC/general category farmers (up to 40% subsidy). These subsidies help farmers set up fish farming units and earn a steady income.

Training and Assistance

To ensure the success of fish farming, the Fisheries Department provides regular training. Farmers are encouraged to take training before starting their projects and have their water and soil tested. The department also helps farmers construct fish ponds in areas ranging from 1 to 2 hectares.

How to Apply

Farmers can register for PMMSY through the official website fisheries.up.gov.in. After completing the application process, the department will approve it, and the subsidy will be transferred to the farmer's bank account.
