Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, providing timely financial support to farmers during the ongoing Kharif season. Under this installment, over 9.7 crore eligible farmers received Rs 2,000 directly in their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), amounting to a total of Rs 20,500 crore.
The announcement was made at a public event in Banoli, Sevapuri, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to thousands of farmers, PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and prosperity of India’s farmers. This financial support, he said, will help farmers manage their agricultural expenses like seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs.
The 20th installment comes at a crucial time, as farmers across India are currently sowing Kharif crops. The timely transfer is expected to ease financial pressure on small and marginal farmers, improve crop productivity, and ensure smooth agricultural operations.
Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN is a central government scheme aimed at providing income support to landholding farmers across India. The key features of the scheme are:
Annual Financial Aid: Rs 6,000 per year in three installments of Rs 2,000 each.
Direct Transfer: Money is credited directly into farmers' bank accounts via DBT.
Eligibility: Farmers with cultivable land, updated land records, and completed e-KYC are eligible.
So far, over 11 crore farmers have benefitted from the scheme, making it one of the world’s largest income support initiatives for the agriculture sector.
With the 20th installment, total disbursement under PM-KISAN has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore since its launch. The previous 19th installment was released on February 24, 2025, and while the 20th was expected by June, it was delayed due to the Prime Minister’s foreign visit in July.
In Bihar alone, over Rs 27,088 crore has been distributed through earlier installments, and the 20th installment is set to benefit around 76.37 lakh farmers in the state.
