Big changes have been made in the rules for selling paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). With the paddy procurement deadline approaching fast, farmers now need to follow a stricter process to ensure their produce is purchased at MSP. If farmers do not complete the required steps on time, their paddy may not be procured.
The deadline for paddy procurement in the Korea district of Chhattisgarh, including Baikunthpur, is January 31. Only seven days are left, and farmers who have not yet completed the process are rushing to the procurement committees. Due to the new rules and limited time, crowds at committees are increasing every day.
Even though January 31 falls on a Saturday, when procurement usually does not take place, the government has taken a special decision to continue paddy procurement on that day as well. Committees have been instructed to keep issuing tokens till the last date so that as many farmers as possible can sell their paddy.
Under the revised paddy procurement rules, the earlier online token-based system has been closed. Now, farmers must follow a two-step process:
Apply directly to the procurement committee
Complete document verification and registration
The token will be issued only after verification
Earlier, farmers could sell paddy directly using online tokens. Now, verification has become mandatory before token issuance, making the process stricter and time-sensitive.
Due to this change, the number of applications to committees has increased sharply. For example, at the Adim Jati Seva Sahakari Samiti Jampara, 55 farmers applied, out of which 46 applications have already been verified, and token issuance has started for them.
So far, 1,04,245.92 tonnes of paddy have been procured through 21 procurement centers in the Korea district. During this period, 18,017 registered farmers have successfully sold their paddy.
However, 5,311 registered farmers are still waiting to sell their paddy. The biggest challenge for the administration is to complete verification, token issuance, and procurement for these farmers within just one week. Any delay may result in farmers missing out on MSP benefits.
Out of the remaining farmers, 1,530 farmers are facing problems due to the non-carry-forward of old registration data. Because of negligence at the committee level, their records were not updated on the Unified Farmer Portal.
As a result, their registration remains incomplete, and they are currently unable to sell paddy at MSP. These farmers are repeatedly visiting committees to get their records corrected before the deadline.
Apart from registration issues, the slow pace of paddy lifting from the Primitive Tribe Service Cooperative Societies has become another major problem. Due to delayed lifting, many societies are running out of storage space.

Because of the lack of space, weighing operations are being affected at several centers, causing further inconvenience to farmers.
With the paddy procurement deadline fast approaching, farmers are advised to act immediately. Those who have not applied yet or whose registrations have not been carried forward should contact their respective committees without delay.
Only farmers who complete document verification and token issuance on time will be able to sell their paddy at MSP. Timely action is crucial to avoid losing the benefit of government-supported paddy procurement.
