The Maharashtra government has announced a major relief package worth ₹1,765.22 crore for farmers whose crops were damaged by heavy rains and floods between June and September 2025. This financial aid will help farmers buy essential inputs like seeds and fertilizers for the upcoming Rabi season 2025–26.
The announcement was made by Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav Patil, following approval from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The minister confirmed that the Government Resolution (GR) has already been issued to ensure quick implementation.
Along with this relief package, the Maharashtra government has also approved a broader ₹2,540.90 crore assistance for farmers who suffered crop losses across several districts due to floods and heavy rainfall.
Minister Patil stated that providing timely assistance to farmers affected by natural disasters is the government’s top priority. He added, “The government is working with a sensitive approach to help affected farmers recover from their losses and get their lives back on track.”
Crops in multiple districts, especially in the Pune, Nashik, and Amravati divisions, were severely damaged during the Kharif season 2025. To ensure that farmers can start fresh during the Rabi season, the state government has introduced this special aid package.
Officials confirmed that the financial assistance will be directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts through a transparent process, helping them quickly resume farming activities.
The Maharashtra government has also discussed a loan waiver scheme but has decided to defer the final decision until June 30, 2026.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government aims for long-term and practical solutions for farmers. A high-level committee, chaired by Chief Economic Advisor Praveen Pardeshi, has been set up to study the issue and recommend ways to reduce farmers’ debt and boost their income.
The decision to postpone the loan waiver has drawn criticism from the opposition.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray said, “The government keeps announcing packages worth thousands of crores, but very little aid actually reaches farmers’ accounts.”
He demanded that the state government immediately announce loan waivers so that farmers can start Rabi farming without financial stress.
The Fadnavis government maintains that it is committed to supporting farmers and that this relief package demonstrates its sensitive and proactive approach. Officials assured that all assistance will be provided transparently and directly credited to farmers’ bank accounts.
The ₹1,765 crore relief package is expected to benefit lakhs of flood-affected farmers across Maharashtra, offering them much-needed financial support for the Rabi season.
While this move provides short-term relief, the state’s final decision on loan waivers by June 2026 remains highly anticipated. Farmers are hopeful that both immediate aid and long-term policy measures will help stabilize their livelihoods and secure their future.
